Live-Action ‘Bambi’ In Very Early Development With Canadian Director

Another Disney classic is getting the live action treatment! Bambi is in early development with a Canadian star.

Sarah Polley To Direct

25th Costume Designers Guild AwardsMEGA

The famous child actor-turned-director is working Bambibeloved Disney classic, after scoring with Women Speak and won “Best Adapted Screenplay” at the Oscars. Deadline reported that Polley brought a group of heavy hitters with him for the ride.

The cartoon is said to be made into a musical featuring music from country singer Kacey Musgraves. If Musgraves is one of the people tapped for live action music, fans can rest easy that some melodic, powerful ballads and bad girl magic are coming their way!

The film also already has a script, but nothing is set as the conversation is still considered early development.

Who Wrote Bambi, Currently

The duo attached to the script, well, the latest version, are the writers behind it transparent, Micah Fitzerman-Blue, and Noah Harpster. Producers are Chris and Paul Weitz. The wait has been extended for fans of the animated film.

The first talk was raised in 2020 during the pandemic, fans were excited only to be told that it would take years for something like this to happen. In 2023, they finally attached a director who technically still has a pending status.

They have a script to choose from now, and that too is one step closer. When the news was first announced, Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Beer were attached as producers, and that has now changed.

The Writer’s Strike Faced It

All these plans are great, but don’t forget that the Writers’ Strike is happening, and no one has been actively working in it Bambi script since the last iteration. Since there’s no way of knowing how long the strike will continue, fans could have a much longer wait ahead of them.

Bambi is not the only production to feel the heat from the Writers’ Strike. Disney alone has basically shut down production on all of their popular shows. And they are not the only ones feeling the pressure.

Hit like Abbott Elementary, Tulsa Kings, Stranger Things, The Handmaid’s Tale and The Last of Us. The list is endless and growing at this point. There is even speculation that many shows could be canceled depending on how long the strike lasts.

Sarah Polley’s Bambi Will Be Different

Hallie Bailey was spotted on Good Morning America in New York City promoting her movie The Little MermaidMEGA

Deadline admits that little is known about the live-action remake, but Polley’s Bambi is the latest in another classic Disney series to be made into a live-action film. The Little Mermaid just dropped, grossing over $414M.

The actor is great at adapting. Women Speak opened the industry’s eyes to the fact that Polley was severe and real competition. Whatever he does with Bambi will have millions flocking to movie theaters to watch a meek, motherless deer become a brave forest creature.
