The fun of Lizzo’s flute playing continues to captivate and enchant the audience!

Last week, the “About Da*n Time” singer experienced a very historic and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The Blast reported on Lizzo’s recent tour stop in Washington DC where the 34-year-old gave his fans the gift of witnessing, as he later declared, “history in the making.”

The Library of Congress had previously extended an invitation to Lizzo to play the 200-year-old flute during the performance, which belonged to the family of President James Madison. The sweet moment, which was captured and later posted to Lizzo’s Instagram, happened a few days after she visited the Library of Congress for a tour.

How Does Lizzo’s History Show Come Together?

NBC Washington reports the historic flute was rescued by First Lady Dolly Madison after “the White House was burned by British troops in 1814.” (per The Blast)

Plans for the historic moment first came to fruition courtesy of Library Of Congress employee Carla Hayden after she reached out to the “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)” singer on Twitter. Hayden tweeted, “Love your song[s]. They were ‘very good.'”

Lizzo soon visited the Library of Congress and was given the opportunity to try out the flute before the big show!

A Library Of Congress tweet from September 28 read, “You wouldn’t expect @lizzo to play that antique flute without practicing first, would you?” The tweet also revealed Lizzo also “plays some of the flutes in our collection, which is the largest collection in the world.”

On September 29, their Twitter account followed up on Lizzo’s visit to the library by tweeting, “Many of you following along with #LizzoatLOC were surprised that the Library has a flute vault. We are the largest Library in the world & house over 173 million objects, so there are many more surprises like it’s in our collection…”

Lizzo’s famous 200-year-old crystal flute will then be played on stage outside the Library courtesy of a strict security process.

The Library of Congress wrote in their blog post mentioned above, “Curators ensure that the item can be transported in a customized protective case and library curators and security officers constantly guard the item until it can be secured again.”

The item will soon make its way to Lizzo and the Captial One Arena stage. She excitedly celebrated her big moment in the caption of her Instagram post, writing in all caps, “I AM THE FIRST & ONLY PERSON TO PLAY THIS PRESIDENT’S CRYSTAL RING. IT’S REALLY LIKE THE CENTER… AS THIS FLUTE PLAYER. IS ICONIC AND I WILL NEVER GET OVER IT! “

Earlier today, news broke that Lizzo had an “open invitation” from President Madison’s Montpelier Estate to “take a personal tour of Madison’s estate and also perform during her visit,” according to a TMZ report per I-Heart Radio.

The report also detailed that representatives from the Madison estate “hope to arrange something with the Library of Congress so that Lizzo can play the crystal flute again while her potential is set there.”

As of this writing, there is no word on whether Lizzo has accepted the invitation, but based on her excitement and declaration on stage that “History is so cool, you guys,” it looks like Lizzo will be playing the flute. one more time!
