The ex-boyfriend of one of the world’s youngest lottery winners was shot dead in an argument on New Year’s Eve.
Jane Parks, 28, is the youngest EuroMillions winner in the UK, having won £1 million ($1.22 million, at today’s exchange rates) in the lottery in 2013, when she was just 17.
She has been linked to Marc Webley, 36, for about a year in an on-and-off relationship.
But on Sunday, Webley was shot dead during a New Year’s celebration in their hometown of Edinburgh, Scotland.
The incident is said to have happened outside the Anchor Inn in the north of the city moments before people rang in the new year at midnight.
Webley is a prominent figure in Edinburgh’s gangland scene, having previously served 11 years in prison for shooting a rival gang.

He was acquitted of two counts of attempted murder last year, after being accused of repeatedly crashing his car into another vehicle with two people inside.
Park revealed he had spoken to Webley the night before he died.
“’I can’t believe I’m writing this. We talked yesterday. If I could hug you one more time and tell you everything is going to be okay, I would give anything to do it, Marc,” she wrote on Monday.
“The months we spent together, you taught me some valuable things in life and I will never forget you.
“I was completely devastated. The best bed for you is up there, My Handsome.”
Park had previously posted photos of them together on social media, including one she reposted today, but the relationship appeared to be over when she wrote on December 17: “There’s nothing worse than being single on Sunday.”
Police Scotland confirmed road closures were in place around the pub following the NYE shooting.
“Road closures are in place on Granton Street and Granton Crescent following an incident reported to police at around 11.50pm on Sunday, December 31,” a spokesman said.
“Officers are on scene and the lockdown will remain in place while the investigation continues to ascertain the full situation.”

Locals reported hearing gunshots in the area where it happened, saying they initially believed the explosions were fireworks.
“I thought it was fireworks at first then saw all the blue lights, ambulances and armed police,” one told local publication Edinburgh Live.
“It was bedlam just before the bell.”
Webley’s brother, Don, posted a photo of them together on social media after her death.
Park left a love heart as a tribute to the photo.
