In an interview with The Sunday Times for his “Life in the Day” column, Tomlinson recounts details from his time with the famous boy band One Direction, contrasting it with his current life as a solo artist.
The singer shared that a lot has changed since his bandmates started releasing individual projects after they announced a long hiatus in 2016. The decision came after founding member Zayn Malik quit the group the previous year.
Speaking to the publication, Tomlinson stated that the band’s decision to put all joint projects on hold and go solo came with its own consequences.
He specifically mentioned how the pressure has changed compared to his time with the group. The “Just Hold On” singer now believes that her loss as a solo artist is even more painful and heartbreaking.
He told the publication of Insider“There’s a different kind of pressure being a solo artist, and the lowest is the lowest on your own.”

He continued, “In One Direction, we make decisions collectively, but now it’s all up to me. That also means the highest level is higher.”
Explaining his thoughts, the singer opened up about his impressive solo performance in front of a packed crowd at Milano Summer Fest in September.
“This year, I held a concert in Milan in front of 34,000 fans. The praise is almost overwhelming, but I can take all the credit — not just one fifth,” added Tomlinson, referring to the band’s then-talented quintet.
Before his appearance at the Milan festival, Tomlinson organized the second edition of the Far From Home Festival, which featured famous performers, including The Vaccines and The Snuts. The event attracted thousands of attendees and garnered rave reviews.
