A Louisiana school teacher has resigned amid allegations that she fathered a child by a 17-year-old student, according to reports.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office said Thursday it received a report of a teacher with the Tangipahoa Parish School System involved in an inappropriate relationship with the student and launched an investigation.
Sheriff Daniel Edwards confirmed the department is looking into the allegations but declined to release additional information because of the student’s age.
“While we cannot share specific details regarding the investigation, we can confirm that the allegations were addressed promptly, and that the investigative process was rigorous and thorough,” Edwards told WVUE.
“This type of investigation takes time and is handled with great care. Under no circumstances will we be in a hurry to close,” he added.

No arrests have been made, police said.
The Tangipahoa Parish School System told WDSU that the teacher had resigned.
“The Tangipahoa Parish System has been notified of allegations involving former District employees,” TPSS Superintendent Melissa M. Stilley told The Post in a statement.
“Since this matter involves the confidential issue of students and staff, we cannot comment further at this time, apart from confirming that the welfare of students is the priority of the School District and the investigation is ongoing,” he said.
