‘Love Is Blind’ Nick Thompson Alleges He’ll Be Homeless Due To The Show

“Love Is Blind” reality star Nick Thompson appears on the second season of the popular Netflix reality dating show. He proposed to Danielle Ruhl without looking at her face and the two exchanged their “I Dos” at the altar.

Unfortunately, the couple called it quits after a year of marriage, with Danielle citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split according to court documents obtained by The Blast. Nick has since continued to claim that the show has “ruined” his life, even saying that he is now homeless because no one will hire him due to the alleged mistreatment he has made on the show.

Nick Thompson and his ex-wife have gone public on their respective Instagram pages about their grievances with the show, which include being poorly compensated for the work they did on the show, as well as not being “treated like prisoners.” In new comments made to the Daily Mail on Monday, the 38-year-old podcast host slammed the Netflix show for “exploiting” her and her fellow cast members. He said they were only paid $7.14 an hour for their appearances, which is below the state and federal minimum wage.

The show has proven so popular that a fifth season is scheduled to air in September, and casting calls have been announced in at least three more cities.

“When you think about the amount of money that’s being made and how it’s a pathway to the next season, and the fact that anyone can keep watching me… and I’m going to be homeless,” Nick told the publication, explaining that he lost his job in November ago and had a “very difficult time” finding a new job.

He told the outlet how he “burned through” his savings and even cashed out his 401 just to make ends meet. “I have two months left in the bank to pay my mortgage. I couldn’t get a job because people didn’t take me seriously,” she added, blaming the way the show portrayed her as part of the reason she couldn’t get a new job. “I’ve been a VP in software for five years, so I don’t have a track record of experience or success,” he added.

In addition to her financial woes, the former reality star went on to talk about how she felt like a “prisoner” while she was filming the series. “And that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re always going to be on TV, but you’re going to be tricked from the moment you get there in the morning, and you’re tricked all the way until you leave,” he added. “Then when you go home at the end of the day, you’re locked in your hotel room with no keys without your wallet with no money with no identification.”

“You are literally being held like a prisoner and there is no reason why you should not be considered an employee when you are technically under the control of your employer 24 hours a day,” he claimed.

With the help of other “Love Is Blind” cast members, Nick launched the Unscripted Actors Advocacy Network (UCAN) to provide mental health resources and legal support to past, present and future reality TV stars.

“We were manipulated, our triggers were used against us,” Nick claimed. “Anything we share with publishers or with psychological exams is a weapon against us.” When asked if he would sign up for the show knowing what he knows now, Nick admitted that it was a “tough question.”

“I went back. I never thought I would be on a reality TV show. Even when I took the call, I was like, I’m not for this; I’m not that dramatic, I have my s— together and I have a good professional job, I’ve done a lot of therapy. The next thing I knew, I was there,” he admitted. “When I think about everything that happened and I think about my relationship, it’s hard to say I wish I’d never done it.”
