This dog has his day — to save his owner.
A Michigan man who fell into an icy lake was saved when a quick-thinking police officer enlisted the man’s dog to help.
On Jan. 18, the 65-year-old man fell through thin ice covering Arbutus Lake in Grand Traverse, Michigan, prompting people to call 911, according to state police.
The man was trapped in the cold water, with only his head and shoulders sticking out of the ice, his faithful dog standing by his side.
Michigan State Police Officer Kammeron Bennetts, unable to reach the distressed man because of the uncertain conditions, first tried to throw him a rope attached to a rescue dish.
When that fails, the officer decides to call the furry boyfriend for help.
“Send your puppy here. Will he come to me?” she yelled at the man, who told her her canine’s name was Ruby.
“Ruby come here! Come here, Ruby!” Bennetts screamed in a video of the rescue captured by his body camera.

Bennetts can then be heard whistling at the animal, which continues to run towards him, arriving with its tail wagging.
The officer attached a rescue disc to Ruby’s collar and asked the man to call his four-legged friend back to him.
When he returned to the owner, Bennetts ordered the man to remove the disc.
“Lift your feet to the surface by kicking your feet!” the officer ordered.
A brown and white dog is seen walking through the snow with an orange rescue disc tied to its collar, the attached leash stretched from the shot. AP
Bennetts can then be seen pulling the man to the surface of the lake and dragging him onto the ice.
Bennett and a Grand Traverse Metro Firefighter were then able to grab the man’s arm, with Ruby still attached to the rope.
The man was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment and later released.
