Professor Mahmood Yakubu was born in Bauchi State in 1962. Mr. Yakubu completed his secondary education at the Government Teachers College, Toro after completing his primary education at Kobi Primary School. He then enrolled at Usmanu Danfodiyo University. Yakubu was the first and, so far, only Nigerian from the North to achieve a first class degree in history.
