According to Page Six, Ward’s husband, Terry Baxter, encouraged her to film scenes with other men after she transitioned into adult entertainment.

“He saw the truth in me that I wasn’t going to cross the line … hanging out with guys, basically,” Ward, 45, told the outlet.

Ward admits that she got her start by creating explicit content with other girls, admitting, “Girl stuff, I have a lot of fun with girls. That’s not really disturbing at all [Baxter]. There are many men like that.”

Ward made his adult film debut with 2019’s “Drive,” which featured a large male cast.

“[My husband] really someone who came and, suddenly to me, he said, ‘I see this in you. You really need to try this. You really want to live this fantasy,'” she says, adding, “I think it makes our relationship stronger.”

Baxter, 47, is a real estate agent based in the Los Angeles area. Before she started adult entertainment, her husband used to help record her early work. He was also present when she recorded her first hardcore porn sequence with another man.

“At the end, the first thing we did, nothing bad happened,” he said. “It is a controlled situation. I had to live the fantasy, then it ended and we went back to our lives. So I really think it strengthened our trust in each other and also his trust in me.”

“I feel very happy about that,” he added. “It’s more of a connection there.”

Ward went on to say that she feels confined by mainstream Hollywood, and is grateful that her husband supports her need to express herself.

“A lot of men especially, women too, are very jealous and want to keep their partner in a box,” he said. “And he knows that I’ve been in a box for so long in Hollywood.”

“[My husband] really saw that if he prevented me from any of this, he would be the one who now keeps me in a box,” he continued. “And he knows how much it bothers me and how difficult it has been over the years for me.”

“I finally showed up and I had fun and I did well, so he didn’t want to stop my trajectory,” he added. “And I mean, hey, it turned out even better than I imagined.”

Ward not only won an AVN Award, but she is also one of the highest paid women working in the adult film industry today.

Maitland Ward also explained that she wrote her novel to help de-stigmatize conversations about the industry.

“I just hope … my story helps remove the stigma [sex work],” he said, adding, “Unfortunately there is still a stigma attached. People always say that porn ruins people’s lives and that’s really not true because a lot of girls — and people — get into porn where it’s a safe place for them.”

“If they feel different or they feel they have to hide themselves sexually, they can find a place with people who are like them, who support them and they can live their truth,” she added.

Instead, he believes that humiliation often leads to the downfall of many adult stars, not the industry itself.

“They are ostracized. Stigma, that’s what divides people,” he said. “I believe it leads them into heavy drugs or it drives them to horrible things like depression and suicide.”

“The bad thing you hear about is because it’s so despised in public,” he added.

Ward believes that “the freedom to be able to express ourselves sexually” in film is more important than some critics might think.

“These girls are making a lot of money and they’re saving, a lot of them, for college, they’re buying houses. I know some porn stars who have made a lot of money and they invest in real estate,” he said. “More than anything, it’s empowering. I knew it was for me.”
