Malaika was born into a Punjabi Khatri family in Chembur, Mumbai. Her father, Anil Arora who served in Merchant Navy and her mother, Joyce Polycarp, got separated when Malaika was just 11 years old.
She has one younger sister, Amrita Arora, who is also an actress by profession. Malaika follows Hinduism. She got married to Arbaaz Khan on 12 December 1998 and got divorced in 2017.
She first met Arbaaz during the shoot for a commercial ad for coffee in 1993. The duo parted their ways after 19 years of their marriage. The couple together has a son named Arhaan, born on 9 November 2002.

Career
Malaika studied in Holy Cross High School Thane till 9th grade. She completed her secondary schooling from Swami Vivekanand School, Chembur. After completing her schooling, she took admission in Jai Hind College, Churchgate but she could not complete her graduation due to her work commitments. When MTV started operating in India, Malaika was among the few VJs who got selected. She first hosted the show, ‘Club MTV.’ She did many commercials ads for various brands. She was featured in the album song; “Gud Naalo Ishq Mitha” by Bally Sagoo and opposite Jas Arora.
In 1998, her item number, Chaiyya Chaiyya, from the film, Dil Se, got her much fame and recognition.

In 2008, she played her first lead role in the film, EMI, which turned out to be a big flop at the box-office.
