Man fatally shot by cop on LA freeway was struggling actor, family blasts ‘absolute police brutality’

The man fatally shot by a California Highway Patrol officer on a Los Angeles freeway was a troubled actor — whose family had always been “blue” before seeing the video of him killed by “absolute police brutality,” his stepmother said.

Jesse Dominguez, an aspiring actor who worked as a waitress and lived in a sober living facility due to drug addiction, was shot dead by police while his family claimed he may have had a mental health crisis while he was living in a sober living facility.

“I’ve been pretty ‘blue’ in a lot of situations,” stepmother Akasha Dominguez told the Los Angeles Times.

“There is an issue where [police] using excessive force. But I’ve never been on that end. Now I have a completely different stance,” he said. “This is truly police brutality.”

The 33-year-old was a “softie” who got lost in his quest to make it in California, according to his father, Jesse Dominguez.

“We feel so bad that LA just robbed him,” his grieving father told a local newspaper.

“The Hollywood scene made him want to be that persona. No matter how hard we tried to get him to do another job or get a formal education, that’s what he wanted to do. We will not destroy his dreams,” said his father.

California Highway Patrol police responded to a report of Dominguez walking along the 105 Freeway in Watts, not far from the sober living facility where he lives.

When confronted by the officer, Dominguez “was able to access the Taser,” which he used against the officer, CHP Officials said.

State authorities have launched an investigation into the fatal encounter that began when the officer responded to Interstate 105 for a call.dwight.lewis.501/Facebook

“Fearing for his safety, the officer discharged his service weapon, striking the pedestrian,” the CHP said in a statement.

Graphic video footage shared online showed Dominguez and the officer struggling on the ground before the officer fired several shots at him.

Dominguez’s family said he brought the Taser after being threatened by another resident of the sober-living facility.

The aspiring actor’s stepmother said she couldn’t figure out why the police would get involved with him, because he was clearly in crisis, and why he used deadly force so quickly – even though he had a Taser.

“I don’t know why the officer thought to get involved. If someone is walking on the highway, something is not right. They are either in a mental health crisis or something else is going on,” he said.

“He was not trying to hurt anyone. Why does he need to use that kind of power? After [the officer] had discharged his firearm once, why did he stand up and then do it again and again and again?”

The California Department of Justice is investigating the shooting.
