A man shot his ex-girlfriend in Hawaii early Monday morning, then ran from police for hours before he was killed in a shootout with police.
Sidney Tafokitau’s criminal streak began on Moanalua Highway, where he chased his 39-year-old ex while driving in a white car with no license plate, he told police, according to Island News.
He then shot her several times while she was in the car, causing her to crash into a highway barrier, the report said.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services found the woman with multiple injuries and took her to the hospital in serious condition, Island News reported.
A few hours later, Tafokitau was spotted by a plainclothes officer in Kalihi, where he opened fire on an officer’s unmarked car that was by a high school.
He eluded capture and took off on Likelike Highway, where he stole a vehicle at gunpoint. Many reported seeing the vehicle in Kahuku and the North Shore.

Police located him in Kapahulu around 3:30 pm and a shootout began near the main campus of the University of Hawaii.
Tafokitau was killed in the shooting, which also injured two plainclothes officers.
A fourth man was injured when he was hit by a police vehicle, police said. They are trying to determine if he was involved.
Tafokitau is also wanted by police for shooting a group of men on Rose Street in Kalihi on Dec. 16, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

He verbally argued with the group before shooting at them, beating one and using a knife to injure another.
