The man suspected of killing a couple, their two young children and three dogs in their suburban Chicago home was shot to death Wednesday after crashing his car into flames while trying to elude police.
Nathaniel Huey Jr., 31, tried to flee from officers in Catoosa – an Oklahoma town 650 miles from the scene of the brutal killing three days earlier.
Along with the gunman was an unnamed missing woman.
Pursuing officers found the pair suffering from one gunshot wound each — Huey was pronounced dead, while the woman was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, the Romeoville Police Department said.
The two were named as persons of interest hours after police found the bodies of Alberto Rolon, 38, mother Zoraida Bartolomei, 32, and their two children, 10-year-old Adriel and 7-year-old Diego during a welfare check on Sunday night.
The family — and their three pets — were all fatally shot in what police said was “not a random incident.”
“The evidence has shown us a connection between our suspect and the victim and a possible motive,” Romeoville Chief Deputy Chris Burne said at a news conference.
Investigators have not released any theories about what led to the tragic killing, but previously said there was “a lot of physical evidence.”

Catoosa police took his license plate Wednesday morning and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Huey “immediately attempted to elude the officer,” but crashed his car, causing it to burst into flames, Romeoville police said.
“Officers at the scene heard two sounds, believed to be gunshots,” according to the department.
It is unclear who pulled the trigger.

“In just a few hours of their lives, their family’s life changed completely. The world would be a dimmer place without them.”
