Television
Manju Singh started her career with the first sponsored program on the small screen, ‘Show Time’, in 1983. She went on to produce various TV shows, from serials to children’s shows and chose various topics like spiritual concepts to activism in the early era of color broadcasting. He highlights national, social and cultural issues in his shows. He produced the docu-drama series Adhikar, which was based on women’s legal rights. His show Ek Kahani is based on literary short stories from several regional languages. He also produced the impeccably researched historical series Swaraj to commemorate fifty years of India’s Independence. He hosted the children’s show ‘Khel Khilone’ which ran for around 7 years.

Manju Singh was introduced to acting by renowned filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee. He offered her the role of Ratna Sharma, the sister of the lead actor Ramprasad D. Sharma (Amol Palekar) in his film, Golmaal, in 1979. She played several roles in films such as ‘Hanky Panky’ (1979), ‘Ladies Tailor’ (1981 ), and ‘Screen Two’ (1985). She started by playing the role of a sister and gradually, went on to play the role of a grandmother. He also produced a film, Samyaktva: True Insight, which is based on the relevance of ancient Indian spirituality and wisdom in the 21st century.
Founder of WorldKids Foundation
In 2007, Manju Singh founded the WorldKids Foundation with the motto ‘Entertainment with a Purpose’, a non-profit organization that aims to encourage children to form healthy opinions on important issues through the medium of film.
The foundation organizes a global children’s film festival to provide assistance in making educational films reach the classroom. It screens children’s films at NCPA on the first Saturday of every month. According to Manju, children’s films are not necessarily preachy or frivolous. In an interview, he said,
As mothers, we have the power to positively influence our children. We hope that our efforts will create awareness about critical subjects and encourage women to play a more constructive role in shaping the values of the younger generation”
Manju is also the chairman of the WorldKids Foundation, which works with Women without Borders, an Austrian organization that works for world peace and communal harmony by involving local women in its projects globally. He advocated the use of media to promote a better social environment. In an interview, he said,
The idea is to encourage women to fight violent extremism by instilling in their families the idea of a peaceful and non-violent world. It is our belief that if mothers themselves adhere to values such as tolerance and understanding of world cultures, we will be able to create a fair, just and non-prejudiced world”
Death
Manju Singh left for his heavenly abode on Thursday, April 14, 2022. Reportedly, he died in Mumbai due to a heart attack. In a media announcement, his family stated,
It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the death of our Manju Singh. He lived a beautiful and inspiring life, devoted to his family and his craft. From ‘Manju Didi’ to ‘Manju Nani’ he will be missed by everyone,”
In an interview, Manju Singh’s eldest daughter explained the cause of her death. He said,
He died of a stroke around 10am Thursday at his residence.”
His last rites were performed on Saturday, April 16, 2022 while his family was waiting for his granddaughter to arrive from New York. Various celebrities from the industry expressed their condolences including lyricist-singer-writer Swanand Kirkire.

- In 2012, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) invited Manju Singh as a resource person to the Sahyodya Conference which dealt with innovative ideas on the application and assessment of life skills and values among students.
