As a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Morris feels safe to share his thoughts on the LGBTQ community and how being a part of the county music scene is an exciting experience. “Coming from country music and its relationship with LGBTQ+ members, I just want to apologize,” he said sincerely.

“And I love you for making me feel like a brave voice in country music. So, I just want to say thank you so much for inspiring me. … I’m going to cry,” the choked-up singer told RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked competitors.

The Texan native’s emotion got to everyone and it wasn’t long before the room was emotional. The Untucked star comforted Morris and told him that he’s “down” and “can roll” with their crew anytime.

Maren Morris Is an Advocate

The “Bones” singer worked hard for the LGBTQ community last year when Jason and Brittany Aldean apparently made disparaging comments about the community. “It’s so easy to, like, not be a bastard? Sell your clip-ins and zip them up, Insurrection Barbie,” Morris snapped at Brittany who had just posted a message that could offend many in the LGBTQ community.

Brittany posted a video on Instagram of a makeup tutorial. She captioned the video, “I really want to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboyish phase. I love this girl’s life?✌?.”

Morris wasn’t the only person who was vocally offended by this post. Cassadee Pope has her own opinion, too. “You’d think celebrities with beauty brands would see the positives in including LGBTQ+ people in their messaging.”

The Pope continued to tweet. “But instead, here we are, listening to someone compare their ‘tomboy phase’ to someone who wants to transition. Peachy.”

The singer shared on GLAAD in September that “it’s always been very normal,” for her to stand up for those who need support. “My mother was very close to her uncle growing up, who unfortunately died in the early 90s from AIDS. It’s just a conversation in our household that we’re all the same and there’s no ‘us’ and ‘you,’” she recalled.

Morris went on to share, “I definitely feel like it’s closer to home for me now, having a son — and I have gay family members.” Morris is more concerned with raising her son with Ryan Hurd in an inclusive world.

“All I can do to move forward with my son is to have the same conversation [that I was taught as a kids] so it’s not something complex or something, because it shouldn’t be. I’m definitely getting hot because … we’re talking about people’s lives. I get very emotional when I talk about it.

Since coming out to support the community, Morris has been attacked by the likes of Tucker Carlson and by default, fans of Aldean’s so the support from the Drag Race contestant warms his heart!
