Margot Robbie tells how she convinced Ryan Gosling to join the “Barbie” film project.
The Academy Award nominee shines not only as a star but also as a producer in one of this summer’s most anticipated blockbusters. While the film has an excellent lineup of industry giants from pitch to production, getting one of the biggest names on board took some effort.
Margot Robbie Reveals Her Strategy for Landing Ryan Gosling
After a Barbie poster featuring the topless and tanned Hollywood heartthrob as Ken caused a frenzy, it turns out the actor was lured into the role with a clever bribe. Robbie admitted that he had to sweeten the deal for the 42-year-old to accept the part.
During a recent Heart Radio interview, the “Suicide Squad” actor revealed the exciting news with a playful smile, saying, “I bribed him basically. I was skeptical, and I said, ‘If you make this movie with us, I’ll buy you a present every day.’”
Gosling said, “And he did. Every day there’s this pink-wrapped gift from Barbie to Ken to, I think, encourage Ken-ergy. They are all beach related or horse related.”
“Well, it worked,” quipped the host, to which the father of two replied with a smile, “Yeah, it was amazing. I mean, it was a long shoot, so at one point, it felt like ‘this isn’t sustainable. This cannot go on,’ but it did.”
Turns out “The Notebook” cast wasn’t the only person Robbie sent gifts to. To help her co-star Issa Rae feel welcome in her native Australia, the “Neighbors” actress sent an adorable gift basket to her room, knowing she’s a junkie.
Excited, the 38-year-old shared the delicious snacks she enjoyed and couldn’t contain her glee via her Instagram Stories, listing each one individually.
The “Insecure” star excitedly said, “We got honey soy chicken [chips]we got a yellow candy that I don’t know, a lollipop, a Cadbury Crunchie,” he then chuckled as he admitted to eating one of the Sesame Snaps.
The snack adventure continues, with Issa expressing her delight at the Burger Ring crisps, joking, “Big Burger taste, I’ll judge that.” The writer goes on to share his delight with the classic barbecue-flavored Sakata rice crackers, practically drooling at the thought of Snickerpods.
As the list goes on, the publisher’s excitement doesn’t stop. He expressed his desire to enjoy Tim Tam Chewy Caramel flavors, Peppermint Crisp bars, and Mint slices from Arnott’s. Australia’s snack festival has prepared “President Barbie” for an exciting and delicious exploration.

The “La La Land” star was undeterred in response to critics raising concerns about his portrayal of Ken in the highly anticipated “Barbie” movie, particularly citing his “old” age as an issue.
During an interview with GQ, the award-winning star addressed the controversy head-on, saying, “I would say, you know, if people don’t want to play my Ken, there’s a lot of other Kens to play. “
The “First Man” star also stated that he found the whole discourse funny, pointing out that his character never got much attention until he (Gosling) was cast.
The “The Ides of March” actress said, “But all of a sudden, it’s like, ‘No, we cared about Ken all this time,’ No, you didn’t. You never did. You never cared. Barbie never had sex with Ken. That’s the point.”
In a powerful conclusion to the interview, the “Crazy, Stupid, Love” star directly addressed the critics, stating, “If you really care about Ken, you’ll know that nobody cares about Ken. So it’s out your hypocrisy. That’s why his story must be told.”
Gosling also plays up his role as the character’s “representative,” joking that, “I care about this guy now. I’m like his representative. Ken can’t be here to accept this award, so I’m here to accept it.”
Despite concerns from fans, Mattel, the toy company, launched an attractive doll of Robbie and the cast of “Drive”, portraying their respective characters from the film. Fans can see Margot Robbie as Barbie in theaters now!
