After facing infertility challenges for several years, journalist Maria Menounos and her husband, Keven Undergaro, finally welcomed their first child together.
The happy couple revealed in a recent interview that their daughter, Athena, who they refer to as their “miracle baby,” was born on June 23 via a surrogate.
Menounos and her husband happily recalled meeting baby Athena for the first time and expressed their desire for more children in the future.

In an interview with Us Weekly, Maria Menounos shares her heartwarming journey to motherhood, recalling the indescribable moment when she held her =baby girl for the first time. “It was the most special moment of my life,” Menounos said.
Menounos and her husband, Keven Undergaro, welcomed their daughter, Athena Alexandra, into their lives on June 23, thanks to the help of a surrogate. The actor vividly recalls, “The doctor actually grabbed her and lifted her up on top of me. I was sitting with her on my chest, and Keven and I kept looking at each other like, ‘Oh my God.’ It’s just pure joy.”
Undergaro gleefully added, “It’s like Christmas morning times a million.”

However, Menounos’ path to motherhood was fraught with great challenges, spanning more than a decade. Struggling with infertility, she underwent numerous IVF treatments, but her journey took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2017. After undergoing surgery to remove the tumor, her neurosurgeon advised her not to have children, creating another hurdle.
In a chat with him Us Weekly, Menounos revealed that after his first surrogate failed, a glimmer of hope arrived when his lawyer, Andrew Vorzimer, connected him with Stephanie Levich of Family Match Consulting. “These angels – Andy and Stephanie and my doula, Lori Bregman – came together to help us,” she said.
Menounos also credited Kim Kardashian for helping her through the process, stating, “I give her a lot of credit. She helped us get started and guided me through the fear and the process.” She added, “I really lean into it.”
In February, the couple announced they were expecting, and the world learned of Athena’s imminent arrival. “Athena is our miracle baby,” Menounos declared to the publication. “I’m very grateful for it.”

When asked what it’s like to be a mother, Menounos said, “It’s better than I ever imagined. It’s euphoric.” He continued, “For a long time, I felt like something was missing. I would go to a kid’s birthday party, and I would feel a little sad because I wanted my own family. And now I feel very grounded like I finally know where I am.”
Sharing the thought process behind choosing the name Athena, Menounos shared that they had a list and knew they wanted a Greek name. After considering various options, they settled on Athens. “Athena is the goddess of war and wisdom, and Keven likes the power of the name, so that’s it!” he explained, per Us Weekly.
Looking back on her first few weeks at home with her new baby, Menounos shared that the whole household was “blissful”. He continued, “My father, his Abuelita, his baby’s nurse, all of us, this is a great love.”

Amidst the joy of welcoming their daughter, Athena, into their lives, Menounos also opened up about her 25-year marriage to Undergaro and how they navigated the changes in their new family dynamic.
Despite accepting the demands of parenthood, Menounos shared that she and Undergaro carve out quality time for each other and have had “one date night.”
She also revealed the change in her perspective, saying, “I think the biggest change is that I went to my feminine side. In the past years, when I was flying millions of miles a year, Keven was like, ‘Maria, stop worrying; when we have baby, you’ll just climb it to me, and I’ll get it from there.’ So that’s what we thought the trip would be like, but our roles have really shifted.
When asked if she wanted more children, Menounos said, “Yes! I want 50 more.” He added, “The joy that Athena brings to this house — I want more of that. It tastes really good. There have been a lot of hard times, but I know all of that is behind us, and all the good things are ahead.”
