Maria Menounos has sparked outrage on Instagram after promoting sunbathing without sunscreen. The 45-year-old media personality, who made headlines in 2023 for documenting her pancreatic cancer battle, updated her account earlier today with a video of herself sunbathing, and speaking in the caption encouraged fans to do the same, without any protection. Citing people she trusted while explaining her thought process, it took several hours for Maria to get negative comments, with many finding her advice irresponsible. While one fan called it “bad advice,” another said it was “killing.”

Lying with her eyes closed, the mother-of-one showed off her svelte figure in a strapless brown bikini top, but this post isn’t about the stylish swimwear. In the caption, which Life! face wrote: “Soaking up the sun with my bare skin… sans sunscreen! I know that might sound scary to some, especially since we’re told that not protecting our skin is bad. But from what I’ve learned, not really, you just need to learn the safe way to prepare and use your skin ? Actually, can sunscreen do more harm than good?”
Says Sunscreen Blocks the Body’s Natural Processes
Continuing to put his trust in neurosurgeons and health educators, Dr. Jack Kuse, as well as his naturopath Dr. Alison, the TV star said she learned that sunscreen actually prevents the skin from doing “important things to keep you healthy.” Here, he lists the production of melanin and vitamin D as examples.
“Like Dr. Kruse said, if the sun is toxic, why does nature need us to get it to make Vitamin D?” he continued.
The comment didn’t take long, and apparently Instagram didn’t agree with anything he said.

“Yeah, this is bad advice,” replied one fan. “Yikes this one is hard to digest as someone whose husband is battling stage 4 melanoma. You can get a sunburn in 11 minutes. I can’t ride this one ?,” the popular response read.
While one fan claimed that no board certified dermatologist would “endorse” this statement, another told Maria: “Sorry..this is so wrong. My husband has had 7 melanomas from sun exposure. Enjoying Life With Her Baby
Elsewhere, Maria has been making headlines for enjoying life with her daughter, Athena. Last summer, she and husband Keven Undergaro welcomed their first child via surrogate.
Maria appears to have disabled comments on her sunbathing posts in a quick turnaround. Most likely, his decision will be based on the response he receives.
