Christmas Makes Mariah Carey Happy

“Honey, look, I know a lot of times people say, ‘Oh, yay! Look at her! She’s, like, so festive and a Christmas girl,’ or whatever. But really, Christmas makes me happy,” Carey said recently this W Magazine. “People think I have this princess-style life or whatever, some sort of fairytale existence where I just appear, like, ‘Here I am!’ And that’s not what happened.”

He went on to explain that his love of the holiday stems from a rough childhood. “But when you grow up with a messed up life and then you can have this transformation where you can make your life what you want it to be? That’s the joy for me,” he explained. “That’s why I want my children to have everything they can have. I want them to be able to understand that they can be anything they want to be.”

From Rude Kids’ Christmases to Spreading Holiday Cheer

Even though Carey loves Christmas, it wasn’t her idea to make a Christmas album. The idea came from his record company in the early days of his music career. “It was very early in my career, and I thought it was a little early for me to do it, but I was like, ‘Well, I love Christmas,'” he explained. “I had some very sad Christmases as a child, but I always tried to find a bright light there.”

Mariah Carey Recently Released a Children’s Christmas Book

In addition to popular Christmas songs, Carey radiates her holiday cheer through children’s books. “A Christmas Princess” was recently released just in time for the holidays. The book follows the story of little Mariah, “a mixed-race girl with no money and no one to do her hair.”

“She’s like Pippi Longstocking or Harriet the Spy, but she’s biracial,” Carey said. “A lot of people who are my real fans feel that they’re the ‘other,’ whether they’re white, Black, Brown, whatever – you know, any race, creed or color. If you feel ‘other’, it’s just a different thing.”

This book is a fairy tale about how being true to yourself is your greatest Christmas present. Carey said that she never called herself a Christmas princess. “I grew up in an all-white neighborhood, and when I was little, nobody had my name. Nobody could even say my name,” she said. “So we call her Little Mariah in this story, because we’re talking about a little girl who overcome her circumstances and end up helping others through music. Prince Charming didn’t save her. Music saved her.”

Carey announced the release of her new children’s book on Instagram and many of her friends and fans expressed their excitement about it. Kris Jenner took to the comments to say, “I can’t wait for this!!!! ???❤️❤️❤️,” and actress Kerry Washington added, “OMG OMG THE QUEEN OF CHRISTMAS! xo”

One fan wrote, “So cute!! I’m going to read this to my students ?,” and another said, “I’m so excited for the release of this book ??”
