Carey Recreates Scenes With Special Guest Stars

“Honey” was the lead single from Carey’s album “Butterfly” released on September 16, 1997. What better way to celebrate a song that’s still popular today than with a fun video recreation? The Grammy Award-winning singer was joined by “Stranger Things” star Millie Bobby Brown, her boyfriend Jake Bongiovi (son of singer Jon Bon Jovi), Carey’s boyfriend Bryan Tanaka, and her 11-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe.

In the clip, Carey, 53, plays the role she played in the original video, as someone trying to escape from her captors. Brown, 18, plays the kidnapper who questions the singer, with Carey answering in Spanish and pretending not to speak or understand English. Tanaka, Bongiovi, and the twins make cameos in the video as thugs trying to scare their victims into answering their questions.

Happy Birthday Butterfly!

Carey announced in an Instagram post last week that she is “releasing a new remix, live performance, acapella and new version of “The Roof” with the one and only @brandy” to celebrate the 25th anniversary of “Butterfly”

“Happy birthday BUTTERFLY! 🦋🦋 I will never forget the day I released this album to the world. I have never felt more exposed and exposed but free and euphoric at the same time,” she began her caption. “It’s a true EMANCIPATION (no pun intended!) of my spirit, soul and deepest feelings that I pour into every lyric and every note of every song. 25 years (😳) later and it’s still one of the proudest moments of my life and career. I hope you enjoy reminiscing about this journey with me.?”

“Butterfly” debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 on October 4, 1997. It remained on the chart for 55 weeks.

Carey Starts MasterClass Course Earlier This Year

Earlier this year, subscription-based learning service MasterClass debuted Carey’s new course on “how to use the voice as an instrument.” The course features lessons on singing, songwriting and production, as well as a new take on one of her songs featuring R&B singer Brandy. Carey spoke to PEOPLE about the experience. “It’s an honor to not only engage with fans in such a unique way, but to be able to invite the world to experience this special part of me that has become my personal paradise,” he said. “When I started in the industry, being a creative songwriter, vocalist and producer in this male-dominated space was very difficult. I want to use this opportunity to share my story and teach my audience how to use their voice as a tool for expression.”

Carey’s take on MasterClass also has her mentor singer Brandy, 43, through a collaborative re-recorded version of “The Roof (Back in Time).” “Brandy and I both loved the original backing vocal arrangement of ‘The Roof’ and decided we wanted to update it,” he said. “I truly believe it surpasses the original and I can’t wait for you all to hear it.”
