Marianne Williamson drops out of longshot 2024 Democratic presidential primary race

Self-help guru Marianne Williamson is suspending her second long campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.

The 71-year-old White House hopeful announced he was quitting in a campaign email to supporters on Wednesday, a day after he finished third in the Nevada primary.

He received 2.9% of the vote and finished behind President Biden and the “none of these candidates” option.

“At first they ignored you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you don’t win :)…” Williamson’s concession note began.

“I really appreciate all the incredible people who have accompanied me on our political journey over the past ten months,” he added.

“While the extent of our failure is clear to all, the extent of our success is real.”

Williamson’s national poll peaked at 9% last October, after Robert F. Kennedy Jr., announced he would drop out of the Democratic primary and run as an independent, and fell to 6.5% this month, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average.

The onetime adviser to Oprah Winfrey said “processing” her experience of a second trip to the White House — after a failed 2020 campaign for the Democratic nomination — will be “an ongoing journey.”

“In the final analysis I think the only real failure in life is our failure to learn from it,” Williamson said. “I have learned a lot and I know that I will learn more. Processing this experience itself will be an ongoing journey, and forgiveness will guide me as I go through it.”

“I won’t allow the mental torment of all the woulda shoulda canas to bind me to the past, but I will keep my eye on the bigger story. In ways I can’t yet see, none of this will be in vain. There’s a hidden gift that just began to reveal themselves.

The best-selling author and motivational speaker noted that his campaign website will remain operational to allow “future candidates” to peruse his platform and “take what works for them, drinking from the sources of information we provide.”

Reparations for descendants of slaves, universal basic income and switching to 100% renewable energy are among the ideas Williamson advocated on the campaign trail.

His message ended by telling supporters that all future donations he received would be used to pay off his campaign debt.

In 2020, Williamson was accused of burning his remaining campaign cash and defaulting on payments owed to several of his creditors.
