A newly married Texas couple was killed in a wrong-way accident with an allegedly drunk driver as they were returning from a reunion with other US Marines.
Kristen Huddleston, 35, and her husband, Jared Huddleston, 42, were riding in their SUV along the Chisholm Trail Parkway in Fort Worth just after midnight Sunday when they were hit by a car that crossed the road, WFAA reported.
The couple, both Marine veterans, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Andrew Adamson, 27, the other driver, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was taken into police custody.
“He will face two counts of intoxication manslaughter for the deaths of two individuals who were in their vehicle,” Police Officer Jimmy Polozani told NBC 5.
“The victim’s vehicle was traveling on Interstate 30 westbound, trying to take Chisholm Trail southbound,” he said. “The suspect vehicle was traveling eastbound on the bridge in the wrong direction, which resulted in a head-on collision.”

The Huddlestons had returned from a reunion with the other Marines on the night of the live collision.
Kristen’s father, Rafael Ortiz, described her as a loving mother of two daughters who went to school to become therapists to help other former Marines transition to civilian life.
The newlyweds, who each have children, have moved to Texas to be closer to Ortiz.

“He had so many dreams, aspirations,” she told WFAA. “The growth process is great to see, and it has been grazed. It’s hard. It still seems unreal. I only spoke to him four, five hours before.”
Ortiz, who has four grown children, said the couple was on their way home from attending a reunion with other Marines when the accident happened.
“The joy of seeing her become the woman you always wanted your daughter to be … now knowing there’s no hope for that … just devastating,” Ortiz told the outlet. “You shouldn’t bury your children.”

He described his daughter and son-in-law as soul mates.
“They are so happy. That’s the happiest I’ve seen my daughter as an adult. They’re still happy together. Can’t separate them,” he said.
A GoFundMe page says Kristen “had the most infectious laugh and thrived on making those around her smile and laugh along.”
“Kristen is a light in a storm of people, so please, let’s rally around her family and be a light to them in this very difficult time,” he added.
