A military police officer opened fire and eventually arrested a motorist who gained unauthorized access to a California Marine base.
The civilian driver was arrested and taken to a naval hospital for evaluation after gaining unauthorized access to the Twentynine Palms, California Marine base on Friday and being shot by a military police officer, according to a report from Military.com.
According to a Marine Corps statement Sunday, the civilian attempted to enter the base around 8:19 p.m. Friday. T
the individual was unarmed, the statement said, and only one Marine MP fired at the vehicle.
No injuries or deaths were reported in the incident, according to Twentynine Palms spokesman Captain Johnathon Huizar.
“Our security procedures are still intact,” Huizar told Military.com. “Whenever an incident occurs, there is always an after-action review – so that happens alongside an investigation by [the Naval Criminal Investigative Service].”
Huizar added that the incident was not classified as an active shooter situation at the time and the Marine Corps did not believe the unauthorized installation breach was an act of terrorism.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service, the agency currently leading the investigation, did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.
The incident is the second time this year that a California Marine Corps installation has been hit by an unauthorized vehicle, following a January incident in which a vehicle attempted to drive through a security gate at Camp Pendleton, located southwest of Twentynine Palms.
The incident forced the main gate at the installation to be closed for more than two hours after police officers there had to erect a “final denial barrier,” a physical barrier designed to prevent unauthorized access, according to a report from the Washington Examiner.
The driver of the vehicle crashed into a barrier, causing the car to burst into flames.
