While chatting on the “Today” show, “Planet of the Apes” actor Mark Wahlberg opened up about feeling upset after seeing his daughter, Ella Rae, at her college during a trip with his wife, Rhea Durham, to South Carolina for “mother’s weekend father.”

According to Wahlberg, meeting “college girls” and “fraternities” made him realize how much he missed out on by skipping college.

“He was very happy there. She’s really thriving,” Wahlberg said of his daughter, per Fox News.

The actress then continued, “We just went to parents’ weekend, you know with sorority girls and frat houses. It was like, ‘Oh my God.’ I definitely feel like I’ve never really regretted not going to college until I saw (this).”

Ella Rae, 20, is Wahlberg and Durham’s eldest of four children. The couple, who have been married for 14 years, are also parents to Michael, 17, Brendan Joseph, 15, and Grace Margaret, 13.

In chat with E! News, Wahlberg shared that his family’s move to Las Vegas has been a good change for them. The 51-year-old revealed that his children loved their time in Sin City after he and Durham decided to leave Los Angeles for their children’s well-being.

According to the “Ted” star, his kids “love Vegas.” Wahlberg also stated that while he has spent a lot of time pursuing his interests and career in LA, it is now time for his children to pursue their interests in Las Vegas.

He said, “I spent a lot of time in LA pursuing my passion and my career, and now it’s time for them to pursue theirs.”

“Everyone thrives there; it’s great,” added Wahlberg. “I want to be able to give my children a better life and follow and pursue their dreams – whether it’s my daughter as a horse rider, my son as a basketball player, my son as a golfer – it makes more sense for us .”

Wahlberg revealed that business opportunities in Las Vegas were an important factor in his decision to relocate.

The “Father Stu” actor talked about his dream of creating a Vegas-based movie studio and shoe factory, which would create jobs for the city’s residents.

“There is a lot of opportunity for growth here, and the government, especially our new governor, is looking for opportunities to create jobs outside of gaming,” he said, per Fox News.

“So we’re looking to create 10,000 jobs in the studio alone. The average salary was $100,000 more than it is now. We want to train people in front of and behind the camera, create jobs, and most importantly, first of all, for local people,” added Wahlberg.

Wahlberg is one of the most famous Catholic celebrities in the entertainment industry. During an appearance on the “Today” show earlier this year, she talked about religion in her household, stating that she doesn’t plan to force her children but hopes they find their way to religion.

“Again, I did not force them,” he said. “Before it was like ‘OK, everyone has to be in a Catholic school. We have to go to Mass every Sunday.’ But that can also be hateful. I want them to gravitate towards it in a very natural way.”

She previously spoke about her Catholic faith and her children in a previous appearance on “Today” in 2022, stating that they thought she was “boring” for it.

“They thought dad was crazy, and he was boring,” she said later. “But even with my faith, I didn’t force them. But they know that dad can’t start the day without praying, can’t start the day without reading my Scriptures or going to Mass.”
