The pandemic is bringing new debates into the spotlight about the best places to work. What is more productive – working from home, the office or a hybrid model?
Martha Stewart recently said she thinks remote work is not as productive as working in an office. He’s clearly not a fan of the hybrid remote work model, but I’m not sure he fully understands the other side of this debate.
I LOVE working from home. I can’t imagine working in an office full-time after working from home for the past four years, and continuously for years before that. And I’m super productive seven days a week!

I have been working from home full time since the summer of 2019. I actually started working from home in 2007 but here and there ended up in the office until 2019. And let me tell you, I wouldn’t change it for anything.
Let me preface, I have several jobs and they are all done from home. With all my jobs, I make my own schedule. So maybe I have a slight advantage over someone who works from home but has a set schedule, but whatever, the results are pretty much the same.
I will tell you about the pros and cons that I feel about working from home.
Pros: I’m here for my kids and don’t miss a big gap all day to see them and I’m easily accessible to them if they need me. I don’t waste time commuting to the office to do the same things I can do at my home. I save money on gas, wear and tear on the car, coffee, food and work clothes. I work in pajamas or other comfortable clothes and don’t have to get up an hour early to get ready. I can throw a lot of clothes in the washer or dryer during the day so it’s not something I have to do at night before bed. When the weather is nice, I can take my office to the back deck to enjoy the view while I work. It hurts less because you’re not around a lot of people all the time. The list goes on and on.
Cons: I don’t pass any stores between my bedroom and my office to stop and grab something for dinner. That all. And is that really a scam? I don’t think so, but maybe for some people it might be.

As a single mother, I was able to generate double the income BECAUSE I worked from home and didn’t have to take time away from the kids to do so. When I’m done with one job, I just switch gears to the next. Don’t waste time going back and forth. This is the definition of “work smarter not harder” in my eyes.
And again, my favorite pro is definitely having it for my kids. I don’t miss events, games, or just hearing about their day when they get home from school. I am able to give work and family 110 percent because I am always here and focused.
Martha Stewart Thinks People Need to Go Back to the Office

I will say that I am a Stewart fan and I often agree with his stance. I think he’s an interesting person, honestly. But this is one thing we don’t see eye to eye on and I believe it’s probably because we’re at different places in life. Although, I know he’s a hard worker and so am I, so we at least have something in common. But I’m thriving in my career in part because I work from home, or at least that’s how I see it.
Stewart recently told Shoe News, “You can’t possibly get everything done by working three days a week in the office and two days remotely.” Maybe that’s true for some, but I don’t think that’s a fair statement.
He compared the US to France. “Look at the success of the French with their stupidity … you know, holidays for August, blah blah blah. That is not a very developed country. Should America go down the drain because people don’t want to go back to work?”
I personally think, it’s not that people don’t want to go back to work, they don’t want to go back to a crowded office that they have to commute to when they can do the same thing from the comfort of their own home.

While I can’t fully argue for the hybrid work model since I work from home every day and not just some days, I will say that I am more productive at home, especially since I can make my own schedule.
If I realize I forgot to do something for work, it’s easy to do at the time and not something that has to wait until I’m back in the office. I feel like I’m more productive, and I actually get more done with multitasking than if I was in an office surrounded by distractions. I also don’t have “business hours” so if work comes in at 9pm and I’m available, I’ll work regardless of the time. You’ll never hear me say no to work because it’s not “business hours” and that’s simply because I work from home.
