Marvel Cuts Ties With Jonathan Majors Immediately After Guilty Verdict

Movie giant Marvel has parted ways with “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” star Jonathan Majors.

The decision came after the actor was found guilty of two out of four charges in his domestic trial. Majors was arrested back in March following an incident with his then-girlfriend Grace Jabbari.

He is scheduled to be sentenced in February next year and is expected to have no contact with Jabbari. He could potentially face up to a year in prison, in line with the usual punishment for his crime.

Barely hours after being found guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment, Jonathan Majors has found himself kicked out of the Marvel franchise, according to Hollywood Reporter.

Before his legal problems, the actor had played the mysterious role of Kang the Conqueror in two Marvel projects, namely, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “Loki.” His character is expected to be more prominent in the next phases of the MCU, “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.”

It seems that Marvel decided to cut ties with Majors to distance themselves from the taint of his legal issues, which could be a PR problem for future projects. Meanwhile, Majors has yet to respond to the loss of his multimillion-dollar role with the company, and there is no clear word on what Marvel plans to do next. However, hiring Michael Waldron, the creator of Loki, to work on the new draft suggests that the actor’s role may be recast.

Jonathan Majors Found Guilty By Jury

It comes after a jury of three men and three women delivered a verdict that the actor was guilty of reckless assault and harassment of Grace Jabbari in March. The panel, however, did not find him guilty of third-degree intentional assault and second-degree aggravated harassment against the victim, who was his girlfriend at the time.

Majors, who came to court with his usual bible and notepad, put on a stoic face as the verdict was read. His family members who were also in the courtroom showed no reaction in line with Judge Michael Gaffey’s instructions.

The actor will be sentenced on February 6 and could face up to a year in prison for the domestic violence incident. During this period, he was under a protection order requiring him to refrain from any contact with Jabbari.

The Prosecution Thanked The Jury For The Decision

Following the verdict, District Attorney Alvin Bragg issued a statement thanking the jury for delivering justice in the case.

“At the Manhattan DA’s Office, we are committed to being survivor-centered in all of our work,” the attorney said in a statement, per Deadline.

He added, “The evidence presented throughout this trial illustrates the cycle of psychological and emotional abuse and escalating patterns of coercion that are all too common in many cases of intimate partner violence that we see every day. Today, a jury ruled that a pattern of abuse and coercion culminated in Mr Majors assaulting and harassing his girlfriend. We thank the jury for their service and the survivor for having the courage to tell her story despite having to relive her trauma in the stands.”

Their statements are also in line with Jabbari’s lawyer, who publicly stated that “justice has been served” by the verdict.

Meanwhile, Major’s lawyers slammed the decision, saying they were “disappointed” by the decision. They also stated that their client plans to appeal the decision.

“It is clear that the jury did not believe Grace Jabbari’s story about what happened in the SUV because they found that Mr. Majors did not intentionally cause her any injuries. We are grateful for that,” Chaudhry said on Monday. “We are disappointed, however, that despite not believing Ms. Jabbari, the jury nevertheless found that Mr. Majors was somehow reckless when he attacked her.”

“Mr. Majors is grateful to God, his family, his friends, and his fans for their love and support during these eight sad months,” added Chaudhry. “Mr. Majors still believes in the process and hopes to clear his name completely.”
