Actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead turned to her husband Ewan McGregor for “Star Wars” advice.
While Winstead will be making her debut as Hera Syndulla from the animated series “Star Wars: Rebels,” McGregor is best known to fans as Obi-Wan Kenobi from the prequel trilogy. He also reprized his role in Disney+’s live-action series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” last year.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly on their Dagobah Dispatch podcast, Mary Elizabeth Winstead admitted that she saw Ewan McGregor trying to practice using the Force in real life, saying, “I must have caught him doing that.”
When asked how Obi-Wan Kenobi really felt about seeing him join the franchise, he replied, “He’s so happy and excited for me,” adding, “He’s really happy. He’s like, ‘There’s nothing like being embraced by this community. and be a part of it. It’s just a special thing.'”
The publication stated that after he completed his role as the Jedi Master in the prequel trilogy, he was apparently done with the franchise for good. In 2016, he told Magic Radio that he had no “need” to reprise his role, saying, “I don’t have a burning need to do it again, or indeed any kind of fascination for movies that other people seem to have. I don’t has that. Maybe because I’ve been in it. I’ve seen behind the curtain, you know what I mean? It doesn’t have the same kind of magic to me.”

However, Winstead revealed that her “appreciation” for the franchise has grown over the years, prompting her to pick up her lightsaber again for Disney+’s live-action series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” last year. “Over the years, he’s grown in appreciation,” Winstead said. “And I’ve been able to watch it and see it grow in him, and see his Obi-Wan series happen, and how it feels to greet the fans and get their response.”
The interaction between the “Star Wars” cast and fans seems to have had the biggest impact on Winstead, especially after receiving a standing ovation for her role at London’s Star Wars Celebration earlier this year. “Just to be a part of that world and to be a part of something that people really care about and a character that people are invested in is a special thing,” Winstead continued. “So, it’s kind of amazing that we can be in this world together, but not together, you know?”

On the same podcast, the actress also talked about what it was like to “pretend” you were using the Force during filming. “It’s the intention and the desire behind it,” he explained. “I feel like I have it more than someone who just wants to move objects. I definitely feel more empowered and confident portraying this character, and I think that comes through. Even when I’m meditating, I feel like there’s an energy that we have and a power that we have that if we focus our attention and focus it in the right way can move mountains.”
