NBA star Matt Barnes is being sued by his ex-fiancé, David Patterson, after Barnes allegedly spat at Patterson during a heated argument at an NFL playoff game last Sunday.

According to new court documents obtained by The Blast, Patterson claims that she was “wrongfully, maliciously and viciously attacked, beaten, threatened and injured” by Barnes on January 22. It appears that court documents falsely state that it happened on January 22, 2022, as the incident made headlines last Sunday.

In the document, Patterson claims that Barnes “deliberately spat” in her face with the “intent to injure and/or offend her.” As a result of the alleged spitting, Patterson said that she has now “suffered and continues to suffer injury, emotional distress, pain and suffering, shame, and humiliation.”

Court documents also state that any “reasonable person in Patterson’s situation would be offended by the non-consensual touching.” Because of Barnes’ conduct, Patterson claims that he has “suffered mental and emotional pain, distress and discomfort, all injurious and damaging to him in an amount not fully ascertainable but within the jurisdiction of this court and subject to proof at the time of trial.”

In other words, Patterson is seeking unspecified damages in this case and hopes the court will decide on an appropriate number. The newspaper went on to say that “Patterson further alleges and maintains upon information and belief that Barnes committed the acts hereinabove willfully, contemptuously and arbitrarily, with malice and oppression and in conscious disregard of Patterson’s rights, and in doing the things here that Barnes says are guilty of oppression and malice.”

In Patterson’s perspective, he felt that Matt Barnes’ conduct “justifies an award of exemplary and punitive damages in any amount necessary and appropriate to punish Barnes and deter further misconduct.”

If that wasn’t enough, it looks like this has just been built over time. Court documents also contain some pretty nasty text messages that went back and forth between Matt Barnes and Melisa Andino. One text message allegedly stated, “Melisa are your lips good for anything other than sucking d***? Control your man he’s going to lose it.”

In one group text message, Barnes allegedly called Patterson a “b****” and a “f***n clown.” Patterson also claimed that Barnes was looking for a fight, by telling him to “stop over” to his house, where he expected physical violence to ensue.

Patterson claims that Barnes told him he was “tired of your fake bully**” and tried to drag Melisa into the conversation. Patterson claimed that Barnes also said that he was poor and “didn’t have enough money to pay for anything.”

In her legal papers, Patterson provided a long list of alleged text messages in which she claims that Barnes called her various foul names in group messages.

Matt Barnes made headlines last week for spitting at his ex-fiancée during a heated exchange at the Cowboys vs. 49ers that took place on Sunday, January 22, 2023. Footage of the alleged altercation reached TMZ, which occurred around 3:40 PM shortly before the playoffs began at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

Two days after the incident, Matt Barnes stepped into a district court in Los Angeles to seek a temporary civil restraining order against Patterson. In court documents, Barnes claims that Patterson “hunted me down and aggressively confronted me.”

Barnes also said that, on the day in question, Patterson “pushed me, and I had to push him away from me.” Although Patterson said that Barnes threatened her in text messages that she included in court documents, in her restraining order, Barnes claimed, “I didn’t want the argument to escalate physically, and because of my frustration with him finding me and his relentless harassment of me spat at him in disgust.”
