Matthew McConaughey Granted 5-Year Restraining Order Against ‘Unhinged’ Obsessed Fan

Matthew McConaughey can now rest easy because a court has granted his request and ordered an obsessive female stalker to keep his distance.

According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, the court issued the restraining order on Thursday, October 20, during a court hearing.

As you may know, The Blast announced in September that the iconic actor filed for a restraining order against an obsessed fan who had mental issues and showed up to a book signing to meet him.

According to the document, the respondent filed a continuance, but it was denied by the judge who explained that he already had their first continuance and there was no good reason for further continuances.

In September, we broke the news that the “Dallas Buyers Club” actor ran to the legal system for help asking a judge to protect him and his family from fanatical fans who harassed and threatened him. In the filing, the award-winning actor claims that the stalker has “constantly harassed and stalked me since April 2022. The harassment began with confusing and harassing letters, emails and legal actions.”

He continued, “This lawsuit is designed to get me into court and get in touch with me.” McConaughey, who was preparing to meet and greet fans at the time of the filing, told the court that he wanted him barred from the event for the safety of his wife Camila Alves McConaughey and their three children.

“He has purchased tickets to attend a promotional event I am scheduled to appear on the week of 9/11/23. He hallucinates and poses a threat to all present.”

Elaborating on the erratic behavior of “disaffected” fans, the “Interstellar” star claimed she sent “threatening emails” to bookstores before her appearance.

The Academy Award winner who warned of “growing” stalker behavior explained that if she attended the event she would be “given a photo opportunity that would put her in close contact with me.”

“I’m concerned,” McConaughey cried.

Matthew McConaughey Has Investigated the Stalker

The “Greenlights” author specifically sought protection for his wife and revealed that he had personally investigated the stalker. “Through investigation and his own admission, I learned that (he) had a past history of mental health problems and had spent time in a mental health hospital. My representative has acted professionally and has advised him to stop contacting me,” McConaughey wrote.

He continued, “Despite clear requests, he continues to send harassing letters, emails and other communications to my team as well as other third parties concerned about his next steps. This includes his intentions when he appears at public events at their establishments.”

The 53-year-old further explained that things could have turned physical if care was not taken, writing, “I’m worried (he) will continue to stalk me and potentially cause me physical harm. His past behavior was unstable and delusional because he believed we had a relationship and he co-authored my book.”

McConaughey was not at fault because the woman was indeed present at his book signing. However, he was met by the police and escorted out of the premises politely as the actor promised when he wrote in his filing, “I have asked my security and other employees to treat him well but also made it clear that I do not want to communicate with him.”
