Matthew Perry was ‘angry and mean’ from testosterone shots in weeks before death: autopsy

Matthew Perry received regular testosterone injections in the weeks leading up to his tragic death – which a friend said made him “angry and mean,” according to his autopsy report.

The male hormone was just one of many prescriptions the iconic “Friends” star was taking when she accidentally drowned in her hot tub on Oct. 28, including ketamine, which officials ruled was the cause of her death.

Perry, 54, had frequent ketamine infusions to treat depression and drug addiction, although the medical examiner said the drug in his system was not from his last infusion.

How the actor got the sedative is unclear, but a female associate insists that Perry is generally happy, despite the irritation caused by the testosterone treatment.

“He last spoke to her [Perry] a few days ago, and she appeared to be fine and in “good spirits,” said a 29-page autopsy on the unnamed woman.

According to the associate, Perry told him he was “not going to kill himself” and appeared hopeful about his future, even asking his doctor to wean him off ketamine and buprenorphine, both used to treat drug addiction, after celebrating 19 months of reported sobriety.

“[Perry] also received testosterone injections, which he believes have caused him to be ‘angry and mean’ for the past few weeks.”

It is not clear why the actor was given male hormones – notorious for triggering aggression – although it may have offset the effects of estrogen-based weight loss drugs he was also taking.

Perry was described by officers as “quite fat.”

The drugs were just some of what officers found strewn around Perry’s $6 million Los Angeles cottage.

In the bedroom of Perry’s assistant — who found the actor face down in a heated pool — deputies found “multiple open, empty, half-filled medicine bottles designated for [Perry]as well as over-the-counter medications, vitamins, digestive aids and dishes filled with various loose pills, tablets, caplets, candies and breath mints.”

Various nicotine vape products and nicotine lollipops are also available at home. The friend told officers Perry had kicked his smoking addiction just two weeks earlier, but his assistant claimed the actor was still pumping two packs a day, the report said.

Notably, investigators found “no alcohol, illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia” in the home or near the jacuzzi.

The star’s death was attributed to “acute effects of ketamine,” but the medical examiner noted that the amount found in Perry’s system could not have been from her last infusion treatment a week and a half before her death.

Ketamine’s half-life is only three to four hours — and the amount found in Perry’s system is equivalent to general anesthesia given to surgical patients, experts say.

High levels of the sedative were found in his bloodstream and a small amount of powder was found in his stomach, suggesting he may have taken it in pill form.

The beloved TV star – who recounted his struggles with addiction in his 2022 memoir – was reportedly clean and sober for 19 months before his death.

Perry’s death shocked fans across the country and loved ones, both of whom were reportedly too grief-stricken to discuss the post-mortem process.

“Tissue donation was not discussed with the family because they were upset,” the autopsy said.

Perry wants to be remembered not only as a famous actor but as an advocate for those who are also struggling.

His dream came true days after his death when the Matthew Perry Foundation was launched, a charity dedicated to helping individuals struggling with addiction.

She also founded Perry House in 2013 to help others with their sobriety.

“I want to be remembered as someone who lived well, loved well, was a seeker,” the actor said in a November 2022 interview on the “Q with Tom Power” podcast.
