Inspired by the hit series “Friends,” Central Perk Coffeehouse opened a permanent location in Boston to honor the late Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing. The cafe features various elements from the iconic show, such as a large orange couch and the six friends’ cup sleeves.
Perry was recently laid to rest in a private ceremony at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles, attended by her co-stars and family members. That same day, a foundation was launched in Perry’s name to support those struggling with and recovering from addiction.
The Central Perk Coffeehouse Opens This November

Central Perk Coffeehouse, the famous cafe from NBC’s iconic series “Friends,” opened its first permanent location in Boston on November 14 and shared a first look at the place with People’s Magazine.
The series “Friends” aired from 1994 to 2004 and featured six friends who live together as they figure out love and life. The cast includes Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Courtney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and Lisa Kudrow.
The new Central Perk location in Boston is located on famous Newbury Street. It previously had a temporary pop-up location for fans in New York. The permanent site is reportedly an upcoming collaboration between CenPer and Warner Bros. Themed Entertainment.
From photos obtained by the news outlet, the cafe has plenty of Friends-inspired memorabilia and hints from famous characters and plot lines. There’s a large orange couch reminiscent of the couch from the show’s apartment and mug sleeves featuring each of the six friends and their iconic quotes.
They Honored Matthew Perry On Opening Day

The cafe was supposed to open earlier but was delayed after the announcement of Perry’s death on October 28. A press release now confirms that Central Perk will pay tribute to the late actor on its November opening date.
It reads, “Central Perk Coffeehouse will be handing out Chandler Bing ‘Can I Pull You in a Sarcastic Comment’ sleeve exclusively throughout the day, in honor of Matthew Perry’s life and lasting legacy.” Fans will be able to enjoy their cup of quality coffee while paying back to falling star
According to Gurdock, one of the masterminds behind the coffee shop idea, it’s “not something new in any way, shape or form.” He added. “This is a real-world, real-world cafe, which will pay great attention to not only the quality of the coffee, and our efforts for that, but also the food.”
Matthew Perry Was Buried In A Private Ceremony

After her death was announced in October, Perry was buried in a private funeral in Los Angeles. According to media reports, the funeral was attended by his five “Friends” co-stars, family members, and close friends. Perry was only engaged once, never married, and never had children.
The funeral service was reportedly held at Forest Lawn Cemetery, near Warner Bros Studios. The cemetery is also the resting place of stars such as Paul Walker, Carrie Fisher, and Stan Laurel. The “17 Again” actor’s cause of death has not been confirmed due to an inconclusive autopsy and pending toxicology tests.
A Foundation Launched In Matthew Perry’s Name

A foundation was launched in Perry’s name and honor on the same day as his funeral. Its purpose is to help people struggling with and recovering from addiction, just as the actor himself struggled with alcohol and prescription painkillers for decades. Perry is open about her struggles with fans, especially in her latest memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and Big Awful Things.“
After the launch, the Matthew Perry Foundation released a statement saying it was “in recognition of Matthew’s ongoing commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction.” The statement further said that the foundation was “guided by his own words and experiences and fueled by his passion to make a difference in as many lives as possible.”
It also includes a quote from Perry’s 2022 memoir, which reads, “Addiction is too strong for anyone to defeat. But together, one day at a time, we can beat it.”
