In the prologue of “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Things”, the 54-year-old actor almost foreshadowed the tragic events that took place on Saturday evening.

“Hi, my name is Matthew, although you may know me by another name. My friends call me Matty,” he began his 2022 memoir, adding the chilling words, “And I should have died.”

“If you like, you can consider what you’re about to read as a message from the outside, I’m next,” the prologue reads.

The actor struggled with addiction for a long time, however, it wasn’t until his memoirs that he really opened up and let down his walls.

“[I was] at my highest point in ‘Friends,’ the highest point of my career, an iconic moment on that iconic show,” the actor while promoting his memoir last year. “When you’re a drug addict, everything is math. I don’t do it to feel high or to feel good. I’m definitely not a party person; I just want to sit on my couch, take five Vicodin, and watch a movie. That was heaven for me. It’s not anymore.”
