The list of missing people on Maui has dwindled by more than 100 people after dozens of wildfire survivors came forward to tell authorities they were safe.
Officials released a list of 388 missing people earlier this week.
“We are very grateful to the people who have reached out by phone or email,” Steven Merrill, the FBI’s special agent in charge in Honolulu, said at a news conference.
“When we remove someone from the list, it has allowed us to focus more resources on those who are still on the list,” Merrill added.
The FBI is working to verify the information provided by the people who came forward, and update the list.
Survivors initially included on the missing list said they were “confused” and “disappointed” to learn they were on it.

The County of Maui released an updated list of 388 names on Thursday, a sharp drop from earlier in the week, when the number of those missing was still more than 1,000.
“We are releasing this list of names today because we know it will help the investigation,” Police Chief John Pelletier said in a statement at the time.
“This is not an easy thing to do, but we want to make sure that we do everything we can to make this investigation as complete and thorough as possible,” continued Pelletier.

All single-family homes were searched Tuesday, The Post reported, and attention turned to multi-story, residential and commercial buildings.
The death toll for the Maui wildfires – the worst in the US in a century – remains at 115 and may rise, officials warned.
