Mayim Bialik Says ‘All Of The Cast’ Wants A ‘Blossom’ Revival

Actress Mayim Bialik has a lot going on at the moment!

In addition to co-hosting “Jeopardy!” trivia game show with Ken Jennings, he also starred in his own sitcom called “Call Me Kat.” However, it seems he wants to add another sitcom to his list: a revival of the hit series “Blossom.”

“The Big Bang Theory” star first debuted on the NBC sitcom “Blossom.” The series officially premiered on January 3, 1991, and ended on May 22, 1995.

Mayim Bialik plays the main character, Blossom Russo, a rebellious teenager who is the youngest of three siblings. He lives with his divorced father, Nick (Ted Wasso), his older brother and recovering addict Tony (Michael Stoyanov), and his middle brother Joey (Joey Lawrence). The show also features her ruthless best friend, Six (Jenna von Oÿ).

Although a “Blossom” reboot has been talked about for years, nothing seems to have happened until now. In a recent interview, Bialik told Variety that not only is series creator Don Reo preparing a script for a new pilot, but the entire cast is interested in returning to the show.

“The show was supposed to be Catcher in the Rye about a girl, which is incredible,” Bialik said. “And we want to do an incredible reboot. We want to make one cam.”

He also added, “All the actors are on board,” most likely referring to Joey Lawrence, Jenna Von Oy, and Michael Stoyanov, as the three stars made guest appearances on Bialik’s new sitcom, “Call Me Kat,” last year.

While many fans will be excited to see the “Blossom” reboot, Mayim Bialik has been quite busy lately, between filming her current sitcom, co-hosting “Jeopardy!” and also hosted its spin-off series, “Celebrity Jeopardy!”

“My schedule isn’t open enough to think about it yet, but Don and I are finally ready to have more meaningful plans around it. And people ask me all the time about it,” Bialik told Variety. “You know, we were an incredible show about a girl at the time. There were no network shows about girls. Everyone said, ‘Nobody’s going to watch it.’ And here we are.”

There were also more problems with getting “Blossom” back on the air than expected. Entertainment Weekly explained how the original show aired on NBC and was produced by Touchstone Television, which is now a Disney subsidiary. The original 1991-1995 show is now available to stream on Hulu, which is also owned by Disney.

“It’s a set of conversations with Disney because there’s a lot of red tape and there’s a lot of complexity,” Bialik said, adding, “It’s complicated.”

Just last week, Mayim Bialik and Don Reo broadcast together at an event at Bryant University. In her Instagram post, the 47-year-old actor wrote, “Thank you Bryant University (and especially President Gittell & Dean McComb pictured here!) for hosting me and Blossom creator Don Reo yesterday!”

“We had so much fun talking about each other’s craft, our 35-year friendship, and answering questions about the Blossom reboot!” he continued. “For those of you who are not there, we are working on it. I mean, don’t you want to know what Blossom Russo is up to?”

Bialik and Reo have been working on a pilot script for a reboot as far back as 2021. At the time, he told Entertainment Weekly that the two “have limited reboots that we want to do. We are having a lot of trouble getting our network.”

He went on to say that he might involve fans to help make it happen. “I might just start a grassroots fan campaign to see if we can do that because we’d really like people to see where these characters are at,” he added. “[Reo] and I talked about it and we kind of decided after years of trying to work this out that I might as well say it out loud. We have a well-formed idea and we want someone to let us do it.”
