Actress Mayim Bialik may co-host “Jeopardy!” with Ken Jennings, but now that his sitcom “Call Me Kat” has been canceled after its third season, it seems he has plenty of time to bring back the popular series, “Blossom,” in which he appeared as the titular star.
However, it seems that there are some changes that will be made to “Blossom” to make it more relevant to modern audiences. For example, “The Big Bang Theory” alum recently revealed that, if “Blossom” returns, he doesn’t want it to be the ’90s sitcom that fans love.
Mayim Bialik DOESN’T Want ‘Blossom’ To Come Back As A Sitcom

Although he wants to bring “Blossom” back to audiences, he recently revealed that he doesn’t want the beloved ’90s show to return as a sitcom and would rather explore some of the show’s storylines in a deeper, more meaningful way.
In a September 2023 interview with Vanity Fair, Mayim admitted that the wheels were in motion for a “Blossom” reboot. “I’m happy to tell you that, yes, it’s true,” he said at the time. “All the original cast and creators and producers are on board, and we believe a reboot can and should exist once the protests are over.”

However, there will be a lot of difference between the 90s sitcom and the new reboot if they can get the show up and running. “We’re hoping for a reboot not as a sitcom, though. We wanted to bring back these interesting and deep characters – a child of divorce, a recovering drug addict, an alcoholic – to see them in a new way,” he explained.
The proposed reboot has been compared to “Bel-Air,” which is a reboot of “The French Prince of Bel-Air” starring Will Smith. Instead of a half-hour sitcom, the show rebooted as an hour-long drama. While the new format is loved by some, others feel it lacks the “charm” of the original, which could make Mayim Bialik have a hard time getting Blossom Russo back on TV screens.
Mayim Bialik May Try A Grassroots Campaign To Get ‘Blossom’ Back On The Air

Mayim Bialik previously revealed that she had trouble reviving the series. He and “Blossom” creator Don Reo had already created a pilot for the series and finished the script, but couldn’t get the network to give them a chance.
In 2021, Maiym told Entertainment Weekly that he “may just start a grassroots fan campaign to see if we can do it because we really like people to see where these characters are.”
He went on to say that he and the creator of “Blossom” had “talked about it and we kind of decided after years of trying to work this out that I might as well say it out loud. We had an idea that was well formed and we wanted someone to let us do it. “

Even though he can’t use the network, he has convinced his former cast members to return to the reboot. The series premiered on January 3, 1991, and ended on May 22, 1995. Mayim Bialik plays the main character, Blossom Russo, who is the youngest of three children.
Blossom lives with her divorced father, Nick (Ted Wasso), her older brother and recovering addict Tony (Michael Stoyanov), and her middle brother Joey (Joey Lawrence). The show also features her ruthless best friend, Six (Jenna von Oÿ).

In April 2023, Mayim told Variety that “All the actors are ready” for the reboot. Joey Lawrence, Jenna Von Oÿ, and Michael Stoyanov all made guest appearances on Bialik’s sitcom “Call Me Kat” last year.
“The show was supposed to be Catcher in the Rye about a girl, which is amazing,” Mayim said of the show. “And we want to do an incredible reboot. We want to make one cam.”
While fans are excited to see “Blossom” back on screen, Mayim admits that while her schedule may be busy, she is committed to introducing Blossom Russo to a new generation.

“My schedule isn’t open enough to think about it yet, but Don and I are finally ready to have more meaningful plans around it. And people ask me all the time about it,” Mayim told Variety. “You know, we were an extraordinary show about a girl at the time. There are no network shows about girls. Everyone said, ‘Nobody’s going to watch it.’ And here we are.”
He also hinted at the red tape preventing the show from being rerun. Entertainment Weekly revealed that the NBC series was produced by Touchstone Television, which is now a subsidiary of Disney. The original series is now available to stream on Hulu, which is also owned by Disney.
“It’s a set of conversations with Disney because there’s a lot of red tape and there’s a lot of complexity,” Mayim said, adding, “It’s complicated.”
