Don’t buy it.
GOP candidate Mazi Pilip is warning voters that his opponent in the Long Island special election, Democrat Tom Suozzi, is a true-blue progressive in moderate clothing.
“This is part of the game. He is a politician, a career politician. He plays this game. Suddenly he doesn’t want to be endorsed by Biden. He votes over 90% of the time with Squad members. He cannot run away from his record,” Pilip told The Post shortly after his debate with the former congressman.
“For him, he just wants to win this election. He will lie. He won’t be honest. And I know what he’s trying to do,” he warned.
Philip’s campaign made a story about Suozzi’s past vote against condemning the “reject the police” movement in 2021.
There were also complaints about a July 2019 Facebook post in which Suozzi shared advice with undocumented immigrants on how to evade federal immigration authorities. That same month, Suozzi publicly boasted that he was an “honorary member” of the far-left House “Squad.”

The race for Long Island’s third district — sparked by the ouster of former Rep. Disgraceful George Santos – pitting the 61-year-old Dem against Nassau County lawmaker Philip, with polls showing heat.
Suozzi has worked to position himself as a staunch Democrat — while maintaining the unpopular brand of the Democratic Party.
The wealthy and conservative district, which includes Oyster Bay Cove, Glen Cove, Manhasset and a chunk of northeastern Queens, gave Republican George Santos an 8-point victory in 2022.

Although President Biden was in New York for a fundraiser this week, he was MIA from the campaign trail with Suozzi.
“The president is underwater in that district,” Suozzi told The Post. “I don’t think Joe Biden campaigning for me is going to help me.”
House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries quietly parachuted into the district last week to mark the start of early voting and fire up black voters — but he has been notably left off Suozzi’s public schedule.

Gov. Hochul — deeply unpopular on Long Island — has also been absent from the campaign trail, and Suozzi has avoided mentioning him since receiving his clutch endorsement in December. The pair continue to have bad blood stemming from Suozzi’s primary challenge to him in 2022.
“Let’s be clear. I’m a Democrat, I’ve always been a Democrat, I’ll always be a Democrat, I’m worried about the left side of my party,” Suozzi insisted. “And I’ve been against my team members my entire career.”
Philip showed no shyness toward former President Trump, saying Trump was welcome to campaign with him and telling The Post he was proud to vote for him in 2020.

Suozzi reminded The Post that when he was previously in Congress, he served as vice chair of the chamber’s bipartisan Problem Solving Caucus and said his down-to-earth honesty was well established in the district.
