Lilia Vu is a professional golfer. He was born in the United States to Douglas Vu and Kieu Thuy, however, his family has Asian ancestors. He was the second of two children born to Vietnamese-American parents. Lilia’s father, Douglas, is an American from California, but her mother immigrated to the United States with her family in the 1980s to escape war-torn Vietnam.
Vu realizes what his parents and grandparents accomplished in the past to ensure a brighter future for their family. He remembered this after receiving the 2023 Chevron Championship trophy in April this year, and he honored his late grandfather. Lilia Kha-Tu Du Vu, better known as Lilia Vu, is an American golfer who started playing at a young age due to her father’s influence. He went on to play golf for Fountain Valley High School, where he was coached by Carter Keyser.
After graduation, he enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he studied Political Science while still competing on his college golf team. Lilia turned pro in 2019 after leaving UCLA after her junior season. Two years later, she won three Symetra Tour titles and climbed into the top 250 in the Women’s Golf World Ranking.

Lilia Vu was born on October 14, 1997, in Fountain Valley, California, to Douglas Vu and Yvonne Kieu Thuy. Yvonne Kieu Thuy, Douglas and Lilia’s mother, married on February 9, 1991. Douglas, his father, has been a golf instructor at the David L. Baker Golf Course in California, north of Mile Square Park, for many years. Although Yvonne was not a very good player at the time, the two enjoyed playing games together regularly. His favorite sport, however, has always been golf. After the birth of their children, Douglas devoted most of his time to teaching golf to them as well. Kieu Thuy, Lilia’s mother, is also a real estate agent and vice president of Future USA, LLC.

Andre Minh-Tuan Vu, Lilia Vu’s only sibling, was born three years earlier in California to his parents, Douglas and Yvonne. Andre has been a committed golfer since his high school days, having learned the game from his father. He was a four-year letterwinner in golf and played games for Fountain Valley under coach Carter Keyser. He maintained his golf career after graduation and went on to study Communications and Media at the University of California, Riverdale. He turned professional after graduating college in 2018. Andre currently resides in Huntington Beach, California, with his girlfriend.
Lilia Vu’s Nationality And Ethnicity
Lilia Vu, an American golfer, was born and raised in Fountain Valley, California. However, he is of Vietnamese descent through both of his parents. Douglas, his father, was born and raised in the United States, although his family is from Vietnam. Kieu Thuy, the mother, immigrated to the United States a few years after her daughter was born in Vietnam. When the war ended in 1975, his family was still in Vietnam.
Thuy’s family hopes for a better life after the war, but his father, Dinh Du, becomes gloomy. They finally fled the country by boat in 1982 and landed in the United States. Lilia now has American citizenship and competes for the US in international events. His mother still misses Vietnam, and they go there occasionally to see family who lives there.
