Lynn Prudhomme, wife of famous drag racing hero Don Prudhomme, has been an important part of his life since they first met in high school art class in the Los Angeles area. Lynn has shared the extraordinary career focus of this famous figure over the decades, moving from lover to devoted wife.
Don Prudhomme, better known as ‘The Snake,’ is a legend in American drag racing history. His distinguished career has won him important inductions into the American Motorsports Hall of Fame (1991) and the International Motorsports Hall of Fame (2000).
Don and Lynn Prudhomme’s Long Relationship
Don Prudhomme and his wife, Lynn, have been married for decades. Although Lynn has continually avoided the attention that comes with her husband’s celebrity, she remains the foundation of their family. Lynn maintains a sense of normalcy for their daughter, Donna Lynn, even though Don has had a 35-year racing career, first as a driver and then as a team owner. Lynn’s unwavering support extends beyond the racing pair as they travel across the country.
He takes on the critical role of brilliant team manager, which is often taken over by drag racing partners. Aware of the dangers inherent in the sport, Lynn sees how one devastating collision can quickly destroy a racing family. This realization prompted him to consider the need for a structure that might provide emotional and financial support to injured racers and their families. They and another drag racing couple founded the Drag Racing Women’s Association (DRAW). DRAW was founded to help Shirley with her medical expenses, but it quickly grew into a philanthropic organization.
Don Prudhomme Honored in Exclusive Exhibition
The San Diego Automotive Museum in Southern California features a remarkable permanent display honoring Don Prudhomme. This historic anniversary is commemorated with an exclusive grand opening on July 13, 2023. This spectacular exhibit features over 100 of the famous NHRA Wally Prudhomme Awards. Prudhomme’s signature fire suit and helmet are also on display in the exhibition. This visual attraction is complemented by a well-crafted video package that captures some of Prudhomme’s most memorable songs. A recent interview with Prudhomme fleshes out the story. Prudhomme, who was joined by his wife Lynn and daughter Donna, expressed his thanks saying,
“It is a pleasure to be in this beautiful museum and my career is honored here. I’m also happy that NHRA has been recognized as this great area where people can come and learn more about drag racing.”
