Meghan Markle’s Sister Is Suing Her For Defamation, Demands $75K

Meghan Markle’s half-sister Samantha Markle wants her to pay for her alleged lies.

The 58-year-old has been feuding with Meghan for nearly six years, accusing Meghan of lying about herself in interviews and even her Netflix series with her husband, Prince Harry.

However, things changed when Samantha sued Meghan over comments she made when Oprah Winfrey interviewed her and a quote from her biography, “Finding Freedom.” Although the mother-of-two has applied for the case to be dismissed, the presiding judge has made a decision that may require her to appear in court.

Samantha Markle’s Lawsuit Claims Meghan Markle Wants to Destroy Her Reputation

Samantha has made it clear she will no longer accept half-truths and outright lies from family members, suing Meghan for $75,000. The “Matlock” actor’s allegations include defamation and injurious falsehood.

Per court documents filed last Friday and obtained by ETSamantha claims her filing is due to “defamation based on false and malicious statements made by her half-sister to a worldwide audience.”

The suit alleges that the Duchess “published and disseminated false and malicious statements” about Samantha in “Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of the Modern Royal Family” by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

Samantha further dismissed Meghan’s comments about her as “lies designed to destroy [Samantha’s] reputation and which has been subjected [her] to contempt, shame, and hatred on a world scale.”

He also accused his half-sister of leading a “campaign to defame and destroy the reputation and credibility of his sister and his Father” to “perpetuate and promote a false ‘rags-to-royalty’ narrative [the] The defendant has fabricated his life to the Royal Family and the world’s media.”

The actor later denied Meghan’s claims that they didn’t spend much time together growing up. Although Samantha has asked for a jury trial in addition to a $75,000 salary, Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell has yet to rule on it.

However, he said discovery, the process of evidence gathering and sharing by the defense and prosecution, must continue until then. This means Samatha’s lawyers will question Meghan and Harry before July if the case goes ahead. Referring to the Duchess’ request to delay discovery and full dismissal, Honeywell said:

“Although a preliminary review of the Motion to Dismiss indicates that some of the claims against him may be ripe for dismissal, the review does not reveal, at this time, a clear indication that the Court will dismiss the action in its entirety. Therefore, Defendant Markle does not meet the high standard required to remain in discovery pending resolution of the dispositive motion.”

A hearing on Meghan’s impeachment application has been set for February 15.
