I entered the industry with television shows when I simultaneously completed my A levels. The show was later nominated for an Oscar and my father didn’t want me to fall prey to vanity and was very particular about me getting an education before I pursued a full career in the entertainment industry. I rested immediately and did not get to enjoy the fame, I should have. I ask everyone to delete my account and content about me on the internet. I went to college and went back to the industry. It wasn’t a struggle for me because I never thought about it at all.”

In 2020, Mehar Bano made her debut into the world of web series with ZEE5’s exclusive Pakistani drama web series ‘Churails.’ The series features Sarwat Gilani, Mehar Bano, Nimra Bucha and Yasra Rizvi in the lead roles portraying four young, independent and powerful women who come together as detectives whose mission is to uncover unfaithful husbands of the city’s elite. Mehar Bano plays Zubaida, a young boxer in search of independence and love. Mehar Bano and all other cast and crew started facing criticism soon after the web series khazan was aired in Pakistan. According to a section of society, ‘Churails’ presents women in a way that is not accepted by Pakistani society and culture. The leading female social media account Churails faced a huge backlash resulting in the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) banning the streaming of the web series in Pakistan. Finding no other solution, Mo Azmi, Shailja Kejriwal and Asim Abbasi, producers of the web series, decided to partner with ZEE5, an Indian streaming platform, and release it worldwide. ‘Churails’ started streaming online from 11th August 2020 and received great appreciation for it but still a small section of viewers disapproved of the content and made it controversial. Responding to the criticism faced after the streaming of ‘Churails’ on Zee5, Mehar Bano said,
I believe the streaming platform has given the freedom to portray women and their concerns in a different angle. The advent of streaming platforms has allowed women to express themselves better and be better represented on global platforms, compared to what we are used to seeing on South Asian television. Television does not do justice in portraying reality as it is, limiting them to be one-dimensional characters, more like how men in South Asia want them to be seen. They are seen as submissive and submissive people. They are either very generous and cruelly evil. It is very detrimental to how women are viewed in this part of society. Streaming platforms like ZEE5 have produced content that portrays women as progressive and needs to reflect their real problems. For an actor, it’s a dream come true; women are portrayed as they have always wanted to be.”
