Singer Melanie Chisholm, better known as Mel C, Melanie C, or Sporty Spice, recently revealed that she never enjoyed her days as a Spice Girl and described them as “unhappy.” The singer revealed that she suffers from an eating disorder and feels “an element of guilt” about her fame.
Chisholm explained that at the time, she was aware that she had gained some weight but didn’t care about it. The harassment didn’t begin until after one of the group’s financial backers commented on the size of her thighs. Despite the distraction, he still says his time in the band was “amazing.”

Melanie C’s Eating Disorder Ruined Her Spice Girl Days
During a recent appearance on “The Diary of a CEO” podcast (via New York Post) Chisholm revealed that her days as a Spice Girl were “not happy” because she suffered from an eating disorder. He explained that he always had an “element of guilt” about his fame and couldn’t bring himself to fully enjoy it.
Chisholm said that her eating disorder began after one of the group’s financial backers made a casual comment about the size of her thighs. She said, “He made a comment about the size of my thighs which was something that really shook me. I went to a performing arts college which was mostly a dance college and body image was an issue there.”
The singer explained that he knew a girl there “with an eating disorder.” Chisholm said, “I’ve witnessed that in my life, but it’s never affected me personally.” That one comment changed her view of her body and affected her life significantly.
He Explains How It Started
Chisholm also said that she was always aware that she gained weight after leaving college but that extra weight had never been a problem until the comments. So, he decided to “cut back a little, lose a few pounds.” However, the problem is more complex than that.

Chisholm said, “But someone really commented on my appearance when I was entering a career where a lot of things about your appearance really affected me. I thought, ‘Okay, if I’m going to do this, I’m going to have to fit the mold,’ and then that’s all. It’s just a gradual thing, but it’s eating and exercising, and that’s when it started from comments like that.”
For years, Chisholm hid the secret of her disorder from the press and fans and suffered in silence. However, she explained that it wasn’t all bad and that her time as a world-famous Spice Girl was “the most incredible time of my life and the hardest.”

Earlier this month, Chisholm gave an interview on the “How To Fail” podcast and revealed that she was sexually assaulted the night before her first Spice Girls performance in Istanbul. He said he has written about the attack in his new memoir, “The Sporty One.”
The 48-year-old shared that the attack happened during a massage appointment at his hotel in Turkey. He said, “We were here, the night before the first Spice Girls show,” “So I treated myself to a massage at the hotel and what happened to me, I was buried immediately, because there were other things to focus on. .”
He Buries the Event
Chisholm declined to elaborate on the incident and said immediately afterward, he got up from the table and left the room before he could go any further. The “Wannabe” singer said, “I don’t want to make a fuss, but I don’t have time to deal with it either.”

However, over time, Chisholm continued to push away the memory of the incident, refusing to deal with it. He said, “Because I wasn’t dealing with it at the time, I realized that I had allowed it to be buried for years and years, and then when I was writing the book, it came to me in a dream. I woke up and it is on my mind.”
The star continued, “Then, of course, I had to think, ‘Do I want to reveal this?’ And I just think, actually, I think it’s really important for me to say it and finally deal with it and process it. And for everyone else.”
