Spice Girls member Melanie Chisholm, better known as Mel C or Melanie C, recently revealed that she was sexually assaulted before her first show with the girl group. The 48-year-old is part of the famous British girl group that formed in 1994.
In her biography, which will be released on September 22, Melanie describes a long-buried memory of her ordeal before her first show. The artist revealed that a male masseuse sexually assaulted her in a hotel; however, the memory had just come to him in a dream while writing his book.

Melanie is set to release a copy of her autobiography “Who I Am: My Story,” named after her 2021 single, “Who I Am.” There, she opened up about how she was sexually assaulted shortly before her first show with the Spice Girls in Istanbul. According to the 48-year-old woman, the whole episode bothered her so much that she tried to bury it in her memory. The ordeal reportedly refused to be buried and returned to him in dreams while the artist was working on his autobiography.
Melanie revealed that the incident happened in 1997 when she was 23 years old, and she didn’t say anything at the time because she didn’t want to trouble people. The star’s continuing to ignore the event made him brood within himself until it reappeared to him in a dream.

“It happened to me the night before the Spice Girls’ first live performance,” she said.
“We’re in Istanbul, we’re doing two shows there, and we’ve never done a full concert before, so obviously we’re going to be rehearsing for the next few weeks, the costume fittings, the make-up here, everything’s going to the top. everything I want do and ever want to be.”

He didn’t want to make a fuss

The 48-year-old man revealed per Online Mail that the incident happened when he went to the hotel they were staying at to get a massage the night before the show. According to Melanie, she did not want to make a fuss about the incident, and she was already overwhelmed with many other issues during that period.
“And what happened to me I buried immediately because there were other things to focus on. I didn’t want to make a fuss, but I didn’t have time to deal with it either,” said the artist. “Because I didn’t address it at the time, I realized that I allowed it to be buried for years and years.”

The 48-year-old also revealed that he still has moments of depression as a result of the incident and how he dealt with it. Her fear of attracting unwanted attention reportedly prevented Melanie from seeking the help she needed during her more severe episodes of depression.

The Singer Is Not Sure He Wants To Reveal The Incident

As mentioned Online Mail, Melanie went on to reveal that when the memory came to her in a dream, she thought about including it in her autobiography and decided it was finally time to deal with it. “I had to think, ‘Do I want to reveal this?’, and I just thought, ‘I think it’s really important for me to say it and finally deal with it and process it’ – and for other people,” she said.
Melanie admitted that compared to most incidents of sexual assault, hers was mild, but at the time, she felt “violated,” “very vulnerable” and “ashamed.” The British artist revealed that he wasn’t sure what happened and if he “fixed this.”
“I’m in an environment where you take your clothes off with these professional people,” continued Melanie. “It affected me. But I buried it. A lot of people do.” The girl group’s first show was called “Girl Power! Live In Istanbul” and was scheduled after their first album, “Spice,” a year earlier.

Melanie C Says She Has Depression

Melanie joins the “How to Fail” podcast and reveals that as a result of several factors in her life, she has always lived with depression; however, he has learned to cope with it. She previously revealed that she had issues with her weight, trying to handle fame and being constantly body-shamed.
“Even now, in 2022, I live with depression,” said the 48-year-old. “You know, it’s there. I’ve learned a lot of ways to deal with it and deal with it and avoid it, but sometimes it can get the better of me.”
Melanie encourages everyone who is struggling to “learn what works for you” and keep going. For him, healthy food, scheduled exercise, sleep and a limited amount of alcohol help him in his quest to improve his mental health.
