Actress Melissa Joan Hart opened up about a photo she took with pop star Britney Spears in which she appeared to be crying.
The 47-year-old actress opened up about her experience in a recent podcast episode, where she revealed that her decision to pose for Maxim in 1999 almost got her kicked off “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.”

During an appearance on the Pod Meets World podcast, Hart admitted that he had the “worst day of my life” when he received a phone call from his lawyer while attending the premiere of his movie “Drive Me Crazy.”
“My lawyer showed up and said, ‘You’re doing a photo shoot for Maxim magazine?'” she said in comments transcribed by People magazine. “I was like, ‘Yeah, I do.’ They’re like, ‘Well, you’re getting sued and fired from your show. So don’t talk to the press. Don’t do anything.’”
She then received phone calls from her mother and producer, who began questioning that she would be fired from “Sabrina The Teenage Witch” after posing in her underwear. The actress said that the producers “turned it around” and let her go.

Although her father was not usually “loving and cuddly,” she said that he hugged her tightly to comfort her after he saw how much she was crying. “He lives in New York and I live in LA so he’s not really into emotional stuff, and he came up to me and said, ‘Are you OK?’ I was like, ‘No!’” she recalled.
“I was like crying harder because my father hugged me. I got fired from my show. I just got fired from the movie. I just broke up with my boyfriend,” she revealed.
In the midst of the chaos, he ended up posing with Britney for a photo. The now 41-year-old pop star was at the red carpet event as her hit song “(You Drive Me) Crazy” was featured on the film’s soundtrack.

Luckily for Hart, and as fans already know, he wasn’t fired from the show. “Nothing happened,” he explained on the podcast. “But of course, at the moment, I don’t know what happened.”
Hart would continue to star as Sabrina from 1996 until the show ended in 2003. On the podcast, she revealed that producers had “no standing” to legally fire her for appearing in Maxim.
To add to the confusion, they have used his character’s name without approval, instead of his real name, which created yet another headache for the producers.
“What happened was that the magazine wrote ‘Sabrina, your favorite witch without [a stitch]…’” he explained. “I’ve never heard of someone being on the cover of a magazine and not using their name, they used Sabrina.”
“In my Archie Comics contract, it said I would never play that character [of Sabrina] naked… so here they think I’m violating because I’m playing that character,” he explained. “That should be me promoting my film, it shouldn’t be a character. I have no control over what they write on the front page.”
