The actor first came to the attention of the public at American Pie but she is now a mother and entering a different phase of her life. He shared those details with Rachel Bilson on her podcast, “Broad Ideas.”

She openly talked about postpartum depression admitting to Bilson that she was tired of “covering up” her depression as if it were something to be ashamed of. “I struggled with postpartum [depression] every day,” he said confidently.

“I’ve just had my hormone tests next month, so yeah, it’s all very real. I deal with this every day.” One of her biggest struggles is allowing herself to do things outside of being a mom. “It’s good to get out of the house,” she realized.

“It’s okay to have those emotions no matter what your situation is.” He confirmed himself more now.

Suvari admits she had to convince herself to walk outside her house. That it’s okay to move out there. “I remember sitting on our balcony saying, ‘I have to get out of the house. I have to get out of the house.’

Her husband Michael Hope pushed her all the way. “My husband, he said, ‘You can go. You can go for a walk.’ But I don’t think I can.” She said she felt like she was “going crazy” after giving birth to Christopher.

“I still struggle with that. That I don’t need to be in it [my son’s] facing 24/7 to raise a good human because of my fear. It’s a lot of work,” he admits and “wishes” he didn’t have this feeling.

When she and Hope announced they were going to be parents, she told People she was very emotional. “It’s still a process for me to believe it and accept that something this beautiful can happen to me.”

She admits that trying to conceive at 41 left her feeling a bit hopeless and she just assumed after trying for a while that it wasn’t going to happen. “At first I thought I had jet lag because I’m so sensitive,” she said. “By the end of July, I had some other symptoms and I decided to take the test, and it happened. It was a big surprise, an absolute miracle!”
