Michael Jackson’s Estate Settles Lawsuit Against Man Who Stole Late Singer’s Pajamas

Michael Jackson’s estate has found justice fourteen years after the death of the beloved King of Pop!

The 20th century icon’s estate recently settled with the man accused of stealing “Smooth Criminal” items. The theft happened after the tragic death of the entertainer in 2009, and the perpetrators got away with intimate possessions, including the deceased’s nightgown.

According to new legal documents, a lawsuit filed by Jackson’s Estate to recover the “Beat It” singer’s belongings has ended in a settlement. Jeffré Phillips, the man behind the theft, and the plaintiff announced a settlement of their conflict without sharing details about their agreement, according to TMZ.

Considering how much Jackson’s Estate struggled to collect the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee’s estate from Philips, it’s safe to say they’ve come to a good conclusion.

However, it is unclear whether Phillips returned the item — a request the Jackson Estate made to the judge — or paid the aggregator’s value of the item, which totaled up to $1 million.

The theft of Phillips’ possessions hit the headlines in 2022 after the deceased entertainer’s estate revealed that a man who was engaged to one of Jackson’s sisters had made off with her belongings. According to the lawsuit, Philips abused her fiancé status for nine days while living at the Carolwood Jackson House.

The accused was present when the “Man in the Mirror” artist died and reportedly used the chaos to take personal and private property while leaving the King of Pop’s house. Philips allegedly stole the iPhones of Jackson and his young children.

He also made good with the pop icon’s California driver’s license, a prescription bottle that still contained his pills and his clothes. The stolen clothing included a nightgown worn by the “You Rock My World” singer hours before her death.

Paramedics reportedly removed the nightgown while trying to save the pop star’s life. Philips crossed another line by taking the resuscitation tube used on Jackson. The Estate expressed their outrage in a court document describing the theft as “an act of utter appalling and inhumane.”

It surprisingly took 13 years for the Estate of the “Remember The Time” artist to file a lawsuit against Phillips. They claim the situation went unnoticed until 2021 “when someone contacted the Estate to inquire about the provenance of certain items of Jackson’s personal property that Phillips attempted to consign for auction.”

Moreover, the criminal boldly confessed to having stolen the deceased’s belongings while he was living under his roof. Although the Estate stated that they had recovered some of the items, they asked the court to order Phillips to return the remaining items.

“Phillips refused to return many other items he obtained during his nine-day stay at Jackson’s home, including, on information and belief, Jackson’s home video, music Jackson had written and recorded, and, other clothing worn by Jackson. before his death,” the Estate claimed in their legal filing.

Michael Jackson Hard Drive With Unreleased Songs Stolen

Months before the “Billie Jean” singer’s estate reached a settlement with Phillips, an unknown person stole her hard drive filled with unreleased music. In February, Jackson’s longtime collaborator Brad Sundberg was robbed while traveling to Bruxelles, Belgium, for a seminar.

During this seminar, Sundberg paid tribute to the creator of the moonwalk trend by telling the crowd about his experience working with the cultural icon. However, hard drives and computers containing exclusive content about MJ were stolen right under his nose.

Lamenting the situation, the historic collaborator admitted: “It was a very difficult day in the studio as we were the victims of what appeared to be a targeted theft of one of my laptops. We are working with the Brussels police and doing everything we can to get my material back. The entire event has been backed up, so we’ll be back in full force tomorrow.”

Being robbed of such priceless work broke Sundberg’s heart as he feared what criminals would do with Jackson’s unreleased songs. “There’s some great stuff they have right now, and as far as I know, it’s going to be offered for sale, uploaded, who knows,” speculated the media personality.

“I, along with my family and friends, greatly appreciate your prayers, love, friendship, and support as we deal with this challenging situation head-on,” the late collaborator concluded his statement. Jackson’s fans echoed similar sentiments about the news, disparaging the thief as “An empty, mean person with no character.”
