Michael Jackson’s Nephew Jaafar Jackson Is ‘Humbled’ To Play King Of Pop In Biopic

Lionsgate’s upcoming biopic “Michael,” centered on the late Michael Jackson’s inspiring life, will star his nephew Jaafar Jackson as the title character.

Jaafar, like the rest of the OG Jackson family of five, is an entertainer with commendable singing skills and the sixth child of Jermaine Jackson, Michael’s older brother. “Michael” will mark the young star’s acting debut, and he feels extremely grateful to portray his legendary uncle and can’t wait to bring the role to life.

The 26-year-old recently expressed his delight at starring as his uncle, Michael, in a new film directed by the acclaimed Antoine Fuqua and co-produced by Graham King.

In an Instagram post featuring a black-and-white photo of herself captured in a dancing position similar to the late pop star’s moves, she wrote, “I am humbled and honored to bring my Uncle Michael’s story to life. To all the fans around the world, I’ll see you soon.”

Jaafar can be seen in what appears to be a studio, close to a large mirror, and dressed in typical Michael fashion; ankle length trousers, waistcoat under jacket, hat, white socks and black dress shoes. He credits Jourdynn Jackson for taking the picture and tagged it with Lionsgate, Fuqua, and GK Films.

The post got over 60k likes and thousands of comments, including remarks from family members like Taryl Jackson and TJ Jackson.

Taryl commented, “You’re going to be great!” added some emojis and hashtags that show his love and honor Michael’s memory. Instead, TJ wrote a longer message: “I’m so proud of you, Jaafar. Words cannot express… you get it…. You’re really the only one who can get it right. – LET’S GO!”

Several other fans flooded the comments with congratulations, with a couple using words and others opting for emojis.

“My brother,” one commenter wrote. “What an honor, and can’t think of anyone more deserving than you. Destined for greatness.” Another exclaimed, “This is a good and interesting choice for such a big role. I am sure you will honor your uncle in the best possible way. Go, Jaafar!”

At the same time, a fan praised Jaafar’s acting saying, “Who can complain about this acting? The real JACKSON who plays Mike ? Great result :)”

The film’s director Fuqua shared similar thoughts about the Hollywood star as he admitted to Variety that “it was really interesting to watch Jaafar bring Michael to life.” He also spoke of the “spiritual connection” he felt when he first met the younger Jackson, who had “great chemistry with the camera” and a “natural ability to imitate Michael.”

Following a global casting search, Jaafar was selected for the role, which King — producer of “Bohemian Rhapsody” and co-producer of “Michael” — described as clearly “the only person to hold this role.”

The famous producer and Jaafar met more than two years ago, where King was “blown away” by the young icon’s brilliant representation of his late uncle and expected the world to witness the greatness.

Although “Michael” may be Jaafar’s first gig as an actor, he is quite the singer and dancer. Starting at the age of 12, Jaafar has shown himself portraying artists such as Sam Cooke to Marvin Gaye. In addition, she released her first single, “Got Me Singing,” in 2019 along with a music video and has appeared in several other family-focused projects over the years, showing that she’s no stranger to the screen.

The upcoming “Michael” without a release date, seems to have just the perfect team behind it, including Fuqua and King, both known for their unparalleled prowess in filmmaking.

As reported by The Blast, the script was written by John Logan, who is known for his collaboration with Martin Scorcese in “Aviator” and worked with Sam Mendes in two films from the James Bond franchise, “Skyfall” and “007 Spectre.”

While fans are excited to see the new project, critics may not be as excited since King’s take on “Bohemian Rhapsody” doesn’t show the dark side of Freddie Mercury’s life, hinting that Michael might be similar.

Nevertheless, it is definitely a must-see as it chronicles the iconic part of Michael’s life that led to his worldwide fame, while filming is expected to begin in 2024 or 2025.
