Career
Pfaff has known Slipknot bandmate Sid Wilson all his life, and Wilson introduced him to Shawn Crahan in 2007. They quickly became friends and formed a band called Dirty Little Rabbits, in which he played piano. Before releasing their first and only eponymous album in 2010, the group released two follow-ups, Breeding (2007) and Simon (2009), before breaking up in 2012.
After Slipknot’s veteran percussionist Chris Fehn was fired in March 2019 after launching a lawsuit against the band, Pfaff was immediately approached by Crahan during his day job about possibly replacing Fehn, which he accepted. He took over drumming duties shortly before the band began filming the music video for “Unsainted,” the first single from their sixth studio album We Are Not Your Kind, which was released on August 9, 2019.
Pfaff was quickly dubbed the “Tortilla Man” by fans due to the appearance of his mask resembling a tortilla, and he was known largely by this term until the band finally revealed his identity in March 2022. He was first brought in as a touring member, but when the band into the studio to record their seventh studio album, The End, So Far, he became an official full-time member.
