Micheal Haley began his professional career on May 19, 2008, when he signed a two-way contract with the New York Islanders. He made his NHL debut with the Islanders against the New Jersey Devils on April 10, 2010 (at the end of the 2009–10 season). Haley then signed a two-year deal with the Islanders’ rival, the New York Rangers, as a free agent on July 1, 2012. He spent two seasons with the organization. He signed a one-year, two-way free agency deal with the San Jose Sharks on July 10, 2014.
In his third season with the Sharks, he played his first full season in the NHL in 2016-17, collecting 2 goals, 10 assists and a career-high 12 points in 58 games while leading the Sharks in penalty minutes with 128. Haley left the Sharks as a free agent on July 1, 2017 , and signed a two-year, $1.65 million deal with the Florida Panthers. Haley played 24 games in the final year of his contract with the Panthers in the 2018-19 season before being waived by Florida on February 19, 2019. He was claimed the next day and will play for the San Jose Sharks again on February 20, 2019. He returned to New York Rangers on October 1, 2019.
