Michigan grandma gunned down by friend at baby shower — and vengeful son runs over alleged killer in police station parking lot: cops

A Michigan grandmother was reportedly shot to death by her friend at a baby shower and her son allegedly tracked down his mother’s killer and hit her with his car — in the parking lot of a Detroit police station.

The twist began Sunday when the shooting victim – identified by her family as 53-year-old Phebe Williams – went to a baby shower on Detroit’s east side.

His 46-year-old friend attended the event and accused Williams’ son of the crime, according to WXYZ Detroit.

The friend – who has not been identified – reported Williams’ son to city police last week.

The two got into a fight before Williams allegedly hit him, the station said. Another allegedly spat on him.

That’s when the woman pulled out a gun and fired, killing Williams.

The shooting stunned family members, who struggled to understand why the woman would take such drastic action.

“He’s a family friend. They’ve been friends since childhood,” Shavonda Carter, Williams’ niece, told the station. “I don’t understand why he can pull out a gun.”

“You all can fight. You don’t have to pull a gun,” Carter continued. “There are children in the house. There are a lot of people in the house, so why would you pull a gun?”

After pulling the trigger, the woman got into her car and called Detroit police to tell them what she had done. He drove to the city’s 9th precinct several miles away to turn himself in.

But apparently she didn’t realize that Williams’ son had followed her into the parking lot.

When he got out of his car, he sped off and ran downstairs, the station said.

Police have arrested both Williams’ son and the shooter, who was hospitalized in serious condition. It is not clear if the boy who ran away from the shooter is the same boy who was shot and reported to police.

Detroit Police Capt. Donna McCord said the shooting was another example of “senseless gun violence” in the city.

“Even a licensed gun [carriers]which our shooters … have to be responsible with their weapons,” McCord said.

“If something happens, and you need police help, please call us,” he continued. “Let us deal with the situation. Don’t take matters into your own hands. If you can get away, go. Call 911. Let us come in and take care of this situation.”
