Michigan Republican Josh Schriver booted off committee over racist post about ‘great replacement theory’

A Michigan state representative was disciplined Monday for endorsing “racist rhetoric” online by sharing a post about the “great replacement theory.”

House Speaker Joe Tate, a black Democrat, removed state Rep. Josh Schriver from the key committee and pulled resources and staff from it, days after the Republican shared the post on Feb. 6.

“I will not allow the Michigan House of Representatives to become a forum for the proliferation of racist, hateful and bigoted speech,” Tate said in a statement.

“Schriver has a history of promoting vague theories and dangerous rhetoric that endanger the safety of Michigan residents and contribute to a hostile and uncomfortable environment for others.”

Tate’s disciplinary action came about a week after Schriver, who is white, share the post on X from conservative pundit Jack Posobiec who posted a graphic showing whites being outnumbered with the phrase, “Great replacement!”

The “great replacement theory” claims there is a conspiracy to replace white people with non-white people.

Schriver’s post sparked a backlash at home and allegations of racism.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer slammed his post as “disgusting rhetoric.”

The Post has reached out to Schriver for comment.

He defended his position to The Detroit News.

“I am against racism, race-baiting, and victim politics,” Schriver said.

“What I find strange is the agenda to demoralize and reduce the white part of our population. That is not inclusive and Christ is inclusive! I’m glad Tucker Carlson and Jack Posobiec shared the link so I can continue my research on this issue.”

Despite the penalty, Schriver will be allowed to vote on the House floor.

However, he will lose his position on the Natural Resources, Environment, Tourism and Outdoor Recreation Committee.

Moreover, Tate directed the Office of Home Business to supervise his staff.

Schriver most recently won election in 2022.

Similar punitive measures are unprecedented in the Great Lake State legislature. In 2021, former Rep. State Democrat Jewell Jones has been booted from the committee after a drunken driving conviction.
